Leaving for 30 days... what should I do to the truck??

Hey! I am taking a tour of Europe for 30 days. Leaving June 5-July 5. Truck will probably just sit. Is there anything you guys would suggest to make her fire like new when I got back?? I use power service in every takn, but what else can I do. Neighbors are to scared to take her around the block every now and then. THanks!

I think your OK, just remeber to turn the light off. The shipping from the factory can be over 30 days.

I agree. The worst that could happen is a low battery, and a jump or battery charger would easily take care of that when you get back.

Nothing, really. Ours will sit in the garage for a month or more at a time between RV trips if I don't take it to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. on Saturday to exercise it.

Look in the owners manual. There is a procedure in it for storing your truck. I can't remember exactly, but there is a fuse or something you pull that reduces the load on the batteries for storage purposes.



If you don't want to do that, the others' advice will be fine and at worst you would have a couple of dead batteries when you get back.

that is a good idea, but not so necessary in warm months as it is in winter...



and one of them little . 5a-1a trickle chargers would help keep everything alive [or one of those solar panels on the dash plugged into one of the accessory outlets [cig outlet turns off when key is off/out, the accessory outlets are always on]

Just let it sit, everything will be fine, you might want to disconnect the batteries while your gone, or get a small plug in trickle charger or on of those plug in solar panel chargers... .

Left mine sitting for 9 months outside and through the winter with 18 month old factory batteries.



Upon return I used the popper to open the doors (good sign they worked!), let the lift pump cycle, and it cranked like it had been last run yesterday.



You will be fine.

Well you really need to consider your trucks needs. Do you listen to music or talk radio? Leave a radio plugged into your house power on the station you normally listen to so your truck won't get lonely. Also make sure its got a new coat of wax to ward off that nasty dust. Lastly you might want to hook up a speaker phone near the front of the truck and call every few days just to check in... ...

I parked my 03 for 90 days (Aug to Nov) in Bend, OR. Had oil changed before and after the 90-day period. Filled fuel tank and added Cummins anti-gel additive before parking. Covered truck with Dodge cover and hooked up solar trickle-charger. Returned in 90 days; truck covered with snow, both batteries stone-dead. Jumped batteries, truck started right up, drove to dealer for oil change. Everything A-OK. Most other members agree that most of what I did was unnecessary, but at the time the truck had only 2800 miles on it and I wanted to be careful.
