2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission LED bulb replacements?

Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they reproduce the old bulb's pattern well? Do they live?
I'd guess they could be of help with better output w/o the heat problem.
I just have questions about longevity and if they actually do what the old bulbs did....but hopefully better. ?
They seem to vary in cost from about $50 to $100+ per pair.

I have done some research on this. So far, I have only put them in my tag lights, to stop from melting the plastic. You will need to purchase an electronic flasher, so you don't get the fast flash because it thinks you have a bulb out. Some people put can buss (probably misspelled) led bulbs in, that have resistors in them or in line resistors, nested I of the electronic flasher. This makes no sense to me because you lose the benefit of the led bulbs efficiency. They should last longer than standard bulbs. They are NOT as bright. You should always purchase the color that the bulb is intended for. Red led for tail and brake lights, amber led for side marker and directionals, etc. Everything credible that I haven't read indicate that that are still not as bright as a standard bulb. My information is about 6 monthso old, and led technology has been progressing fast, so there may be better stuff out now. Super Bright LED.com (I think that's the name) is a good place to look. Keep us posted on what you come up with.

Not really interested in turn signals & tail lights, just the headlights. I just want to see better, seems like I do a lot of traveling at night.

What got me thinking was, I went to a local hardware store (old mom & pop style) and they had some hand held LED lights at the counter.
Those Mother &%$#rs were BRIGHT! 400 lumens!
I figure getting an LED "pattern" like an incandescent would be a problem, but if this can be done...the lighting would be FANTASTIC!

LEDS are not dot legal for headlights (for the most part). Besides, you wouldn't be happy with LED
headlights. The only LED headlights that are steet legal will replace the whole housing, and i have only seen dot dot legal for jeeps and motorcycles. Super ugly too. The problem with LEDs for headlights is that they don't project as far as a standard bulb. They have to be super bright in order to do the sames job as standard bulb. LEDs are just too white. That's why LED replacement bulbs are not legal. They would blind everyone around you. Ideal you want a soft white/yellowish headlight. NOT blue. The blue blines everyone and doesn't project as well. Have you
looked at the sport headlight conversion? Fog lights will fill in some dark spots, but you still have to turn them off for oncoming traffic. Hope this helps some.

I did the conversion about 10 years ago.
I was thinking on getting new housings with better (or I thought) bulbs. Mine are quite aged.

Did you do the wiring conversion along with replacing the h/l housings? If not, I highly recommend that you do that. It doesn't matter what wattage bulb you use in your new housing if you are using the existing wiring. The wiring is the problem.

Yes, it's wired to use the factory harness as a switching circuit.
When the lights are on, ALL filaments/elements...whatever... are on. 4 bulbs on in low beam, 4 bulbs (8 elements) on in hi beam mode.
I'd see a major improvement with a new set of lenses I'm sure.

I already modded the inner fender so the sport lights fit, and I already have the harness for the sport lights installed.
$81 is a good price. If they existed 10 years ago when I put the sport lights in I'd have probably gone for these instead.

I replaced the bulbs in my truck with these. They are just plug and play, no harder than replacing the original bulb. Very significant difference in terms of brightness and color of the light, I am very happy with them.
