Once again, I have to impose on this group for advice.

I want to replace the Halogen lights in my 2017 RAM 2500 with LED lamps. I like the higher color temperature lights. The original bulbs are H11 low beam and 9005 high beam.

My first attempt didn't go so well. I couldn't get the caps (dust covers) on the back of the light housings. I found a set of LED lamps that are lower profile, but now I am hearing that this RAM has a CAN bus and they won't work without an add on resistor.

From what I understand because the LED lamps don't draw the same power as the halogen bulbs, I need the resistor to draw more current. Then I read that a resistor is not enough, that I may need a capacitor.

Has anyone successfully replaced their Halogen bulbs with LED lamps? These are not projector style lamps, rather reflector style.

Thanks again,
Mark

Get AlfaOBD and set headlights for HID and no load resistors will be required.

I run sealight led bulbs. In my low beams, I started with L2 and now have x2. Both worked and fit under the dust cover. The x2 are about 50% brighter than the L2 but both are bright and pattern well. I can recommend either in X11.

For the high beams I'm running the L2 but it is not plug and play. They need reclocking and the collar doesn't have the additional hole drilled to clock them. Not a hard mod but it is a mod. The L2 do fit under the dust cover. I just tried the X2 9005 in the high beam, they don't fit under the dust cover and also require collar modification for clocking so I can't recommend the X2 for our high beams. .

As mentioned get AlfaOBD and don't worry about the CAN bus adapters. There is an option to tell the truck you have LED bulbs there. You can also make it so the fogs don't drop off with the high beams.

I have had GTR CSP Mini 9005's in my high and low beams for nearly 2K miles and not one code issue. I then put the same bulb in my fogs last Tuesday.

I really like the light these bulbs make. They don't have a fan, are small, but really bright. They have 360° adjustable collars and fit in the same space as the OE bulbs.

I tried 2 other setups first and neither worked without modifications.

As John mentioned you can actually set the headlights to HID or LED; however, I normally recommend using HID mode as it completely disables the PWM voltage control. Some people have had issues with the LED mode haveingsome flicker that was traced to the PWM still being used in LED mode.

I installed LEDs from undergroundlighting.com in my ‘15 quads. Both highs and lows. As mentioned, the clocking of the emitters needs to be checked and adjusted. Also there is a box that needs to be tucked into the cavity. It is tight but they do fit. Also i noticed the cap has a relief cut into the flange so it only goes on one way. I used AlfaOBD to set the headlights to HID and then adjusted them to the proper aiming. This last step is very important.
