I stumbled across this web site when looking for a cure for the inherent rapid 'blink rate' of the flashers when using the low current draw LED lights:

I make no warranties or guarantees of the quality or accuracy of the information contained in the above website... . I'm just passing along some pertinent info.

I don't have any LED's yet... except for my rear license plate light... . but I plan on going totally LED/HID in the future.

I Have the Direct Replacement LED Cornerlamps found on the 3500 fenders and tailgate on my truck (Man They are wicked bright) But an led has no HEAT UP TIME like a regular light bulb therefore the "Instant On" effect is present.

P. S Matt you saw 'em no? Man I kew we forgot sumpthin'

Where is the flasher on our trucks? I don't feel like looking right now... . is it under the dash, in the interior fuse pannel or the main fuse/relay center under the dash?

Don't know if this will help but I remeber reading about LEDs and how they will sometimes "trick" the flasher or something into thinking there is no bulb which causes the rapid flash. Sorry didn't read the cure but I know there was one... . sorry couldn't be more help.

The "cure" is in the link that I sent along with my original post to this thread... .

Matt

BTW, There is one flahser for the regular turn signals and one for the 4-way emergency signals... .

Matt,

I saw this several months ago. I contacted the fellow that did this. I believe he said that the mod was because of the 5 lug Vs. 4 lug situation. The EP 27 is a direct replacement for 2000 and up Rams. At least w/o mods it still flashes fast with LED lamps, I know, I have one.

I have done this mod to my Jeep...

I can tell you right now, IT WORKS. My blinkers flash just like I had the original taillights in there. Easy to do and fairly striaght forward... just follow the pics and directions. I cut the trace on my flasher with my Dremel and an engraving bit.

Good Luck...

Oh by the way, Autozone has that flasher unit in stock usually.

Something like $12 if I recall correctly:confused:

EOliver,

Please clarify for me. Is the trace mod to make the flasher work in the Jeep or is that to defeat the rapid flash rate?

Shelby

The flasher works in the Jeep just fine without the trace mod done, it just flashes too fast like the stock one with the LED's nstalled. The trace mod just makes it flash slower.

Back to the top with this one.

I bought a pair of rear LED replacement bulbs (#3157) from Auto Zone over the weekend and installed them. As you noted the blink rate was very fast but I figured I would get the new flasher the next day and mod it per the instructions.

That evening after dark I went for a ride into town and was immediately pulled over by the local police for malfunctioning brake lights. I got out and had the girl friend step on the brakes so I could check it out myself. Sure enough, the difference between the park lights and brake lights was hardly noticable.

Luckily I still had the stock lights in the center console and the screwdriver set under the rear seat and the nice occifer let me replace them and go un-ticketed (he also didn't like all the black smoke and the way my tires chirped when I left the stop light!).

I will try the flasher mod but I doubt that it will change the brightness difference between park light and brake light problem.

Any suggestions or similar lighting experiences out there?

Sounds almost like you installed the bulbs wrong... I did it once on my old ford with regular bulbs.

the brake light part is then on all the time and the parking light filament comes on w/the brakes. . very hard to tell when they come on.

A quick reposition of the bulb fixed it. Happens to the best of us I guess.

FWIW,

Mark

Put the led's in the back up light sockets cut and splice to the blinkers, the back up lights don't work anyway. The lights carry the load for the blinker and actually the led's light up quicker than the lights do, they look pretty decent.
