LED's for a 3500

OK;

now that they are installed, do they flash QUICKLY on off, like the big rigs, or the same as the regulars do, with a soft on off??????

i would like the brighter lite but want the instant on off.

There is no difference in the way they flash now, to what they use to do. Only difference is the light it self, brighter and has that LED look, a circle of small little lights.

FYI

I received an order of bulbs with 19 LED's per bulb from www.superbrightleds.com. Granted, I own a Toyota and not a dodge. The bulbs themselves are MUCH brighter than the OEM bulbs, but when placed on the stock housings they are NO WHERE near as bright. This is due to the housing designed to reflect and diffuse the light from the stock bulb. Our fire apparatus have total led's, and they are awesome, but they are designed for this and pretty pricey. DOnt expect a $5-15 bulb to provide the desired results.



Just trying to save someone else some money. I am returning the bulbs tomorrow.

wsmalley - Did you replace your front turn signal bulbs as well? I realy would like to do this but I am hesitant because like others say our housings are not realy set up for this and I am worried about side illumination of the housing... On your cab lights are you happy with the way they look on the roof are they much larger than the oem ones?

WSmally, Do the cab cab lights come with some type of adapter to plug in the existing light bulb plugs? I really don't want to cut and splice any of the wiring. Also do they screw in the existing holes or did you drill new one's? John

You guys are getting it all wrong, there is no adapters, cutting, or splicing. The replacment LED'd just plug in like a normal lamp would. If you are interrested in it, the side marker lights from the 3500 DRW are beautiful, not only do they give off more light, they look great, very modern. They look exactly like what you have now, only exception is they are LED. On the cab clearance lights, you will want to go with as many LED as they sell, they take the 194 lamp. I bought the 9-LED lamps ,and they worked great. This isn't brain surgury of any thing close, the expense is modest and I haven't found a down side to it. Just remember to get 2 load equilizers fro the turning signal cicrcuit.

sorry Y-knot you got it wrong I was asking about the cab lights that wsmalley was linking us to and they are a full replacment light with 16 LED's per light. I tried out the bulb replacment from LEDtronics for the cab light that our trucks have and I was not in the least bit impressed with the overall output. The side markers I can definatly agree with you are outstanding but that is because they were manufactured for that design.

If you mean their 194 replacements, their amber ones are ridiculously dim--you have to get the orange ones instead, which I think are something like 8 to 10 times brighter. The orange are slightly brighter than a normal 194 incandescent bulb.

mcrossly and j-miller, these lights are full replacements, housing and all. Sizewise, they are almost identical to OEM, just not quite as long. I'll try to post a better close-up pic this afternoon. According to the template I used, OEM holes will NOT match up, very close, but I can't remember if mine are wider or vice-versa. I never had the lights to begin with, so I had to run all my own wiring.

My cab lights are whole unit replacements also, not close to original, think they are used on school busses. I can't post pix till I get the truck back, blown head gasket. On way to home, Lakewood, CO, have several inquiries for moving trailers. don't know when OTR PU will be back on the road. Using F350 and sleeping in trailers till then. I'm too dam old to be sleeping in pickup seats.

I replaced all my marker lights, except for the cab lights, with replacement units from the local truck stop. The amber dual markers are much brighter to the sides, but to the front and immediate rear they are somewhat dimmer due to the fact that there light is directed to the sides. This has eliminated the bright, almost blinding, glare caused by the OEM lights. The 3 lights on the tailgate are brighter as well and overall I think it gives an awesome appearance. I'm going to post pictures into my picture gallery on the TDR.
