Leer Canopy rubbing on tailgate

I am having Line-X applied to the bed of my new 2006 Dodge RAM, after which I intend to fit a Leer 100XQ Canopy.

Some members on the board indicated that the Leer liftgate rubs the paint off the tailgate.

Could somebody please tell me how far the Leer liftgate overlaps the tailgate, so I can have the Line-x applied to protect the paintwork on the tailgate.

(e. g. would 1. 5" below the top rail be adequate. )

I have a 100XL Leer topper. I measured from the top of the tailgate handle up to the bottom edge of the topper seal. It is about 3. 25" to the seal and 3. 5" to the black window lower frame.

I used a piece of clear vinyl to stop that problem

i put on a tailgate edge protector to protect mine [need to get a new one though, mine has cracked ]

The XL and XQ use completely different sealing mechanisms for the rear window.



DBurdett, to answer your question, it doesn't overlap. Basically, the rubber seal interfaces with the TOP FLAT EDGE of the tailgate instead of overhanging it like the XL and almost every other shell on the market. I don't like this design much. I already have a line across the top of my tailgate where the paint is gone, but plan to line-x it in the future so I'm not too worried about this annoying feature... btw, if anyone successfully puts an XL overlap strip on a XQ, let me know.

I have an XQ model on my '04, a 1/2 inch should do it.

The rubber blade is approximately 3/8 of an inch long. There's some curvature to the tailgate so seal compression is 100% in the middle common to the top surface and it just barely deflects at the outboard ends with the contact on the radius edge.



A hard protector wouldn't be a bad idea, I pulled a utility trailer for some boy scouts and they let the tailgate down on the tongue jack. It put a small dent right on the top surface. I plan on adding a fresh strip of bed liner to cover it up after I get the dent repaired and it will solve the seal wear issue at the same time.
