Found my canopy had oil canned 3 by 4 foot area on the top rear.

Delamination? The dealer is sending info to Leer for authorization to return cap to them.

Has anyone had any warranty issues with Leer Factory? Am hoping for a replacement. The cap is almost 5 yrs old, but has

lifetime warranty on fiberglass structure.

My experience with Leer is they don't give a crap about customer service or satisfaction. My beef was on the install of a lid, not a warranty issue. I will NEVER - read my lips - NEVER buy a Leer product again. I should have gone with A. R. E. in the first place.

Good luck with your problem.

Unfortunately Terry, I had some pretty bad run-ins with Leer... my last 4x4 as well as my wife's 4x2 had problems with our Leer canopies that were NOT warranted to out satisfaction. That was the main reason that I looked at ANY (and every) OTHER canopy manufacturer other Leer when it came time to look for a new canopy for my new (then) Ram.

I decided to go with Glasstite (again... second one in 23 years). I did in fact have a problem with the basic design of the ORIGINAL Vision II back glass. Even though the canopy was was out of warranty, they still performed the retrofit with the new fiberglass back door/back glass upgrade as well as repaint the entire shell. Pretty good customer service I would say.

Good luck with Leer Terry!

BTW, I regard Leer as the same kind of lousy company as Rancho. After my run-ins with them I've NEVER been back!

John and Dave

Thanks for the info.

As of today this is where I am.

Mike, at Canopy World called and I go in this week to have them remove my cap and send to Leer.

He thinks they will probably give me a new shell and use my side and rear glass. At least 3 weeks for return.

I guess I get to drive around half naked for awhile.

They replaced with new one

Leer sent back a complete new canopy, including glass and lighting. Not bad for a 5 year old product. Sorry if others have not had good luck with Leer customer service. I couldn't have asked for more from Leer or Canopy World who sold it to me in Feb of 98. :)

I had a problem with a Leer 160xl top. Leer ended up giving me a Brand New Leer 122 XL. No problem, they said. I would buy another one if the occasion arises.

tcourse, I had a problem with Leer similar to Fireman Dave's. My cap oilcanned and the clearcoat started peeling off. The Leer dealer wouldn't even talk to me about it. I called the company and a woman told me to take it to the next closest dealer that was 50 miles one-way away. The company said that this dealer was authorized to send the cap back for repair/replacement. Long story short, they called and I drove up there to pick it up and it was the same cap, only it had the de-laminated pert cut out and a patch put in that looked as though they used an axe to do it, and the paint had to have been put on with a mop. I raised cane, but to no avail. I'm with Fireman Dave, I will never buy another Leer product, ever. I now have an A. R. E. cap on my dually and couldn't be happier with it. Good luck on your Leer adventure, I hope you come out of it for the better...

Regards, Larry

I have a leer 160XL and it has been troublesome. It leaked from day one. Once I tightened up all the bolts holding the windows in the leaks aroudn the windows stopped. Now the darn thing leaks around the bed. I have been back to the dealer once to have them reseat it and it still leaks. It looks to me like the the shell does not fit my bed correctly. Leer does not make the 160XL anymore and I am out of luck.

My next step is to take the cap off and silicone it back down.

JR2,

I had same problems as you with my 160xl. Leer told me that it was never really designed for the Dodge. That is why it is ill-fitting. If you ever need a rear glass, complete with hinges and all hardware, Let me know. I have mine sitting in the Garage.

The problems with the 160xl is why Leer gave me a brand new 122 model, at no charge to boot.

EZMack - I wish I had known that you had an extra window last winter. I blew the rear out when a carpet cleaner I had in the back slid around and put the handle right throug it. Yikes $350 for a piece of glass.

How did you get Leer to give you a different top... I might be interested in doing that. Mine leaks and I have been back to the installer and he just blows me off now. Maybe I will email Leer and see what they say. .

Houston we have a problem

My clear coat is also peeling.

Looks really ugly.

Headed to the Retailer tomorrow will let you know how it turns out.

Cross your fingers

Cheers

I bought my Leer Canopy 10 years ago. A few year back I noticed that it was cracking at the top corners by the rear flap. Went back to the Dealer and they told me that I am out of luck. Lately I also noticed that the color is starting to fade. My truck spends most of it's life in the garage and not outside. My son on the other hand has an Arrow canopy on his truck and after sitting outside for over 5 years, the finish on it is like new. I will never buy Leer again.

I had trouble with a leaking Leer, replaced it with an ARE which I like better, but now it leaks too. I'm ready to blame at least part of my woes on DC - the beds of our truck clearly are flexing a lot, and that flexing distorts the shell and causes problems, especially around the windows.

No leaky but really ugly

Well I got to tell you.

At one time I was a big fan of LEER. NOT ANY MORE!

I have no leaks since new. However,

I believe that the service side for this company is dealer-centric. Was really happy with the outfit in Tacoma Washington. They really catered to the customer. No so for the folks here in Virginia. I would NOT recommend a LEER to anyone in Northern Va.

Looks like I will have to re-shoot the Leer cap myself... Great!

It being winter I will have to wait for the weather to warm up a bit.

Until then please AVERT you eyes in Northern VA if you see HISRIG on the road. Looks uglier by the day. Don't follow too closely either due to the sheets of clear coat flaking off the top if my LEER.

Need less to say I am not a happy customer.

7 years and the top looks like it is 70 years old.

Hope I am the only one in this situation.

Cheers

Sorry

to hear so many bad experiences with Leer. It sounds to me like a lot of the dealers are not even attempting to forward a complaint on to the Leer factory. When I called Canopy World, they asked me to come by so they could see the problem. They contacted Leer, who had them send my canopy to them and they in turn shipped a new one back and it was installed free of charge.

I'm Happy. :)

TC

Terry, I'm glad to hear your situation turned out so well! :)

I just wish the same story were true for the rest of the respondents. :(
