Ordered a 100XQ on 11/5 and have had 2 caps come in with passenger side window fitment problems so bad that it would not sit down on the truck. The caps were sent back to the factory and finally the third one has arrived. The dealer CAR-MIC said that it is not perfect and is implying that I am being unreasonable to ask for a cap that fits correctly and the windows align on both sides properly. Am I asking too much to have them make a correct cap for the $1800. 00 they are charging me?

What other opions do I have? Dealer said that Leer is not going to make a 4th attempt at making a correct cap for me. I like the XQ style and no other manufacturer duplicates it.

Hold your ground. Get what you paid for and don't settle for less. My daddy had some problems with Leer when he bought a new topper. First, he ordered it with the headliner that they didn't do. Then the base, the part that sits on the bed, broke. They sent his back 3 times and still didn't get it right. He finally settled for a flip up fiberglass bed cover.

I've had 2 Leers myself. Bought both used. No major problems and they seem like they're made with good stuff.

I have a wholesale account with CAR-MIC and must say i always had great service. Who are you dealing with? I looked at your model cap what exactly isn't fitting the side window to the fiberglass or is the fiberglass base that sits on your truck bed?

Jkruger, for the money it should fit perfect! Take your money and go some where else.
I have had real good luck with A. R. E. , they make a fine cap,in the last decade I've owned two and very satisfied, with color match, workmanship, and perfect fit.

Hope this helps

I have been dealing with Brian at CAR-MIC. Service is at best unacceptable. I am tired of calling and requesting information on my cap that is 3 months late.

First cap came in 6 weeks later because Leer ran out of windows. Upon going to have it installed I noticed that the passenger window on the first cap was sticking out the front edge of the cap and the bottom corner was sitting below the mounting surface and would hit the side of the bed if installed. I notified CAR-MIC and they said they would realign the window prior to install. They did not realign it they cut the window hole larger to allow shifting of the window up so that the cap could be mounted. The truck came out with the cap installed and I laughed at them thinking that I was going to accept it still way out of alignment and with a pile of fiberglass laying in my bed! "TAKE IT OFF AND ORDER ANOTHER THAT IS CORRECT"

Second cap came in and I asked Brian if he inspected it, he said no he was to busy to walk out in the parking lot and look at it to save me a trip to pick up another defective cap. I got a call later that night telling me not to show up the next morning because this cap is messed up the same as the first one. "SEND IT BACK AND GET IT RIGHT, I AM NOT PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT PERFECT"

Third cap is in 3 months later and when I asked if it was correct Brian said it is going to be my call but if I am going to pick about the passenger window being 1/2" out the front of the cap rather than flush like the other side I was not going to be happy. He stated that he feels it is acceptable!??????? Are you serious, I should pay $1800 for something like that, I dont think so.

I will be going down Sat to check out this one but I have a feeling that I will be leaving without a cap but with my money to spend elsewhere on a cap!

Both ARE Caps and Jeraco have the same style cap you desire from Leer. Here in PA where Leer once was top bannana they are not anymore. Poor quality control and terrible paint has now allowed the others to come in and steal some of their thunder. The Jeraco brand is one tough cap which is stood behind with no questions. I had one on my old first genner and when it stress cracked from a trip into Quebec one winter they replaced it for free,no questions asked..... Andy

From the searching I have done, I have not found another cap like the XQ that has solid glass sides where the cap frame can not be seen. Makes the window lines match and looks better than any other cap on the market.

I bought a Leer 100XL used from a guy, only 3 months old last summer and it fit perfect. The only problem I had was the from the removable window, it didn't quite seal right and leaked a little with the rain, but I fixed it with a small gasket.

I bought the remote lock for the cap and I bought a servo that locks the tailgate latch. So when I hit the door lock button on the key fob the tailgate and topper door both lock, very handy.

Sorry to hear about your luck, but I would stand my ground too. Take your business elsewhere if they do not want to provide you with a quality product.

So I am back with my money and no cap.

I inspected the cap prior to the install and the drivers side window this time was a little off but it was something that I was willing to live with so I thought.

I looked over the cap when it came out installed. The frame around the inside of the windows was all smashed from the screws being tightened to much and half of the screws were missing! The seal on the rear hatch was also torn! Once again... . "TAKE IT OFF AND GIVE ME A REFUND I WILL GO ELSEWHERE"

I really cant imagine that Leers quality control can be this bad. I am going to be looking into another manufacturer now.

Try A. R. E. , I think that you will be much happier.

I was very unhappy with my Leer, same QC problems as you desribed.

I would go with ARE also. I was impressed with their quality. I still have my cap for my long bed. I just need to get my truck turned into a long bed!

I had a Leer XL 100 on my '97. I liked the look... Quality sucked.

Complete top replaced after less than one year due to the top collapsing.

Rear door never never never latched correctly. Windows leaked from day one.

Poor quality control. I'll never own another Leer product.

Andy

My brother in law and I both had numerous problems with our Leers. I sold mine, he still has his and has never been completly happy with it.

When I bought my current truck, I didn't even bother looking at Leer, due to all the issues stated already. I was all set to buy an ARE, when I found a screaming deal on a used, like new, Snugtop.

The ARE was 10x better then the Leer. I would sacrifice the "look" you want for the excellent style and quality of the ARE.

Or you could spend alot more and get a Snugtop! If I hadn't found this one, I'd have a ARE on mine.

HIJACK - Good to see you posting on here Michael/justme!
