VW Diesels on the way

I just put down 400$ for a new Leer cap for my 05. Anyone have any experience with them, should i pay the rest of the 1700 or bail, I have read some bad reviews here, what is the right Cap ?

BTW if i want a remote starter what is the best for that?

Help appreciated

I don't know which is the right cap but I ordered a Century Hi-C last week. I paid $1200 for mine which is for a 8 foot bed. I have the same cap on my '96 and it held up well. Just my 0. 02.

my friend bought a leer for his truck in the winter the only problem with it is it faded from dark blue to like a powder baby blue now

I have had a Leer Hard Tonneau Cover on mine since it was new "2003", and I am happy with it.

Seems to be a good quality product, seals well to the bed when closed and keeps everything in the bed dry the paint matches pefectly with no signs of fading and it sits outside 365 days a year. :)

I have a Leer contractors cap (lift gates on side as well as back) on my rig. Overall it is decent but there are a few problems. First is cosmetic, it doesn't quite look like it fits- it sticks out on the rear corners more than I would like. However I never cared enough to try & move the cap back. The biggest problem was that the rear lift gate was misaligned when I got it & got progressively worse. I took it back to the dealer & it was fine for two days. So I took it apart myself & found that they butchered the hinge alignment. I fixed it on the side of the road with a bigger sheet metal screw & it has been fine for two years now. Also the opening mechanism occasionally loosens & stops working. There is a bolt that attaches everything to the handle & apparently the handle is made of very soft metal- the threads tend to strip if you re-tighten too much. Today I was planning on retapping one side for a bigger bolt. Whenever I buy something this expensive I expect problems & I don't feel like these are too bad so I don't regret spending the money on this cap. It keeps water off my stuff & keeps my dog in the truck.

Thanks for the Feedback

I got the 100XQ or QX for the short bed. Came with a headliner and I got a slider. Ill POst a picture when its installed.

I bought the 100XQ for my new truck too and love the look. Build quality is not as good as the two previous Glasstite toppers I owned, but I like the look of the Leer more. I guess it's a fair trade off. Pricing was good as compared to other top models. Too soon to tell if I will experience any problems that some have had. But as with most products, everyone can have some problem at some point. Nothing is perfect.

The Leer truck cap for my 92 delaminated! Being black in color, and extremely hot to the touch on sunny days, I don't know if that had anything to do with it. In any event, the inside and outside layers of chopper-gun fiberglass separated from the internal foam over time, and that time period was over the course of 3 to 5 years. This caused the flat roof of the cap to sag in the middle. When I traded in my 92 and was left with the cap, I did an "autopsy" with my sabre saw as I struggled to dispose of the cap, thus the delamination diagnosis.

I have had two one on my 96 and now the one for my 04. They have been satisfactory, if the dealer charges you to install it don't pay do it yourself. If you take your time the fit will be better than the dealer. Don't drive it with the rear door open, the hinge mechanism isn't very strong and the rivits will break out from the wind. I need to drive mine with the door open at times because I haul lumber that is longer than 8'. I installed cables on the door to limit the opening height so it will not work on the hinge. The red color isn't quite a perfect match for my truck, but over all it is a good product

you have sirius in the cab, is it a laramie or aftermarket

I was looking to replace the crummy 4 speker 1 cd raido that came with my SLT
