Last week, the left headlamp bulb exploded, little pieces of glass and a white residue inside the housing. I have never had this happen before. Is there a way to clean the housing? I suppose it would need to be removed to do so? Or should I just replace?

I installed a new bulb and all appears to be working correctly, just a little more cloudy than the other headlight assembly.

These were the stock housing with GE replacement 9004 bulbs, I think those were about the 3rd set since new, and had been in there for several months with no problems, just kind of a weird that for no apparent reason the bulb let go.

Did you:

1. Touch the bulb with your hands or a greasy surface - no, you already know that one.

2. Use one of the "light extender" devices that powers both filaments…none of these bulb envelopes were designed for that kind of heat-soaking. Guess what, despite popular opinion, they blow bulbs.

3. Could you have a small moisture leak into the housing (might be worth removing the housing and immersing in a pan of water looking for bubbles or water intrusion.

Good luck!! been there!

I had a bulb do this on my old truck once. I used a 1/4 inch piece of hard plastic tubing taped to my shop vac. I got all of the glass out and most all of the white dust. hope this helps
