I am sneaking over from the 12V scene so take it easy on me guys :D . I am looking at a 2004 (not sure if 2004. 5 or not) ST, LWB, 4x4, quad cab, auto, bare bones truck. This is the basic truck, only add ons are Anti-Spin, bright grille, and folding tow mirrors. Truck windows at $38,495. Have been quoted $33,185 plus TTL.

As far a it being a 2004. 5, how can you tell??? It says H. O. Cummins 600 on the sticker. Thanks for helping.

Jim

I would think you could do better on a leftover truck. Our sunday paper had 05 with MSRP of $38600 for $31700. Offer them $29900 for it. Jeff

Before you do anything, go to CarsDirect.com and price out a 2005. I'll bet you find you can get the same, maybe even a better, price on a 2005 after DC rebates.

I just went through this with a 2500 Laramie. MSRP $40,725, dealer selling price $34,486. Carsdirect price for 2005 slightly better equiped MSRP $42,450, delivered price $35,044 after DC rebates. Why would you buy a leftover for that kind of difference?

To me the 04 has devalued by, what, 15% off msrp - $6,000? I see no reason to take that hit.

I checked two dealerships and got essentially the same result - neither would budge.

Kelly blue book has already depreciated the truck as soon as the ink dries and you get off the lot, since it is a year old. Also, the ST loses a lot more. The SLT package costs about $1200 and adds about 4000 to the used value over the ST.

Thanks for the fast response guys  . I did the KBB and found that quite informative. Joe, you are right about the SLT verses ST value. I need to rethink this possibly. I was thinking the dealer would be really trying to get rid of this truck.

Also from reading in the engine section, some are saying the 04. 5's SEEM to have a little more power with the S. O. P. dyno (Seat Of the Pants).

I'm with Jeff. I think you could get this truck for less than 30k. I just bought mine in December (SLT sticker $39,400) for 30k (The only odd discount was commercial discount of $300). There seem to be quite a few hanging around at dealers in the IA/NE area. There has to be some deals/incentives out there in your area.

I got my 05 for $500 more than a 4. 5. And the 05 had the Laramie package. You can do better than what they are offering. The dealer told me I was $500 over his invoice. Checking various websites seemed to confirm what he was telling me.
