I love my '04 but for the headrests which interfere with the brim of my hat. I know, human vanity is a funny thing, but all the same I was wondering if anyone knows whether it's legal to remove the headrest to solve this problem. This is the first truck I've ever had with headrests, so I figure if I've made it this far by living dangerously, I don't mind continuing the practice.

I live in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornya, and would like to know if anyone knows if the tax collectors in the black and white cars will stop me and shake some $ out of me if I'm found driving down the highway with..... shudder at the thought... a removed headrest.

Also, as I get around a bit, would this cause problems in any other states such as NV, ID, MT, WY, TX, AZ, NM?? If someone tells me that it is an illegal practice in the great states of Montana or Texas I will be very disappointed.

Finally, does anyone know of a replacement headrest that is not as tall?

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

I don't get it. You think they have the same kind of hats?

Maybe a nice ball cap... :D

I can't imagine it's illegal but your insurance company may refuse to pay for injuries due to lack of the headrest (if they found out). From a legal standpoint (i. e. , you being sued) I would recommend not doing it on the passenger side and not letting anyone drive your truck without putting the driver's seat headrest back on first. From a safety standpoint, I'd recommend leaving the headrests on and removing the hat, it could save you from years of pain from a neck injury (but you already know that, I'm sure).

Butt with the headrest you cant wear the ball cap backwards :D:D! I (being tall) just tip the hat a little bit forward (full brims - cant turn it backwards ;))

headrest

If anyone said anything to me about taking out the headrest, I'd ask them " whose money bought the truck" "mine or yours" then rest my case. As far as I am concerned, that would be like telling you that you can't own a truck with red paint on it.

take it off who cares... a officer wont pull you over for that if they do tell them to go do something that will actually help out the community:mad:

As stated earlier, it is not likely to get you in any trouble unless you get a neck injury in an accident. Head rests were introduced due to the high number of cervical fractures found in persons who have been rear ended in a collision. If i remember from my classes at the time it was something like 23% before and 4% afterwards. As far as someone pulling you over I would find that highly unlikely. If you really want to protect yourself find a way of covering up the mounting spots and I would bet noone ever knows they weren't there. I thought my 99 had too high of a headrest cause I kept hitting my cowboy hat on it and then I stopped being dumb and adjusted the seat bottom so I sat a little higher, just took a couple of hours and some foam padding from wal-mart. Only bad part is now I brush the roof. :D
