I'm running a stock 03 HO and have been having a debate with myself as to replaceing the stock muffler with a less restricted one or using a by-pass kit from Geno's. Would appreciate any suggestions .

I just replaced the whole thing. Got a 4 inch turbo back from Hogs Performance. Truck sounds great. The whole system is SS including the mounting brackets, nuts and bolts. Try it out you'll love it.

I was on the phone with a MBRP dealer out of Ft. Worth today and you would be amazed at the prices I can get you guys on these exhausts.

Another option is to gut your existing muffler. It is cheap and quick. You get improved performance and economy with very little noise increase. I have gutted the mufflers of both of my trucks and love them.

Appreciate the replys. ;) Noone mentioned a power gain by changing to 4" system over the stock system that ofsets the cost. Also how much more noise is created by using one of the Geno's Garage muffler eliminator kits. It seems it should remove most of the back pressure if the noise level isn't too bad. I tow a heavy trailer several months out of the year.

If noise will ever be an issue, it will be while towing heavy! The larger exhaust helps if you are going to modify for power in the future. On a stock truck the stock exhaust size is fine if you can just get rid of the back pressure of the stock muffler. You WILL notice a reduction in turbo lag when you reduce the back pressure! It helps total horsepower, but not much. The big difference is at part throttle! You might notice an improvement in fuel economy... it made quite a difference in mine!

Drone is a danger without a muffler... a resonate sound in the cab that vibrates everything including your head. The quieter the exhaust, the less chance of drone. If you like noise, drop the muffler. If you like a quiet cab while towing, either gut your existing muffler or buy a long, large diameter, straight through muffler from a big truck.

Are you able to do your own work or will you take it to a shop? I really like my gutted muffler. It is virtually the same noise level as stock, but sure runs a lot better! It took only a couple of hours of work and a few welding supplies... virtually free if you can do your own work! I can tell you how to do it if you are interested.

scheid has blowout pricing on the banks, if I remember right they were 53? for the long bed 4 door trucks. I bought the silverline(304) for mine yesterday for 633. 67. I had the debate about the eliminator kit or complete exhaust. I figured by the time I bought the eliminator for 97 bucks, I might as well spend the extra 500 for the complete exhaust. by the way anyone use the silverline? how was the fit ? having used banks on all prior trucks, fit great. was wondering if I could expect the same.

Send me a personal message with an e-mail address. I have the instructions written out and will send them to you. No one here seems to believe me, but my exhaust is as quiet as stock... it has a slightly different tone under some situations, but NEVER loud! I picked up about 2 mpg of economy and have much better throttle response. I am PLEASED!!!

Just as a comment, I used to own a muffler shop. I have studied out how mufflers work and how exhaust systems affect performance. It IS possible to have low backpressure and still control noise!!!

C Rigsby,

Lots of options, but the best way is to get a system that has a real muffler with packing material like the MBRP's we stock. The muffler is packed with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool, does a nice job killing the loudness and still has a nice deep tone when you plant your foot in it! Check our site we have sound bites you can listen to.

Mark,

Nice looking system, but it seems a bit loud... is it noisy in the cab?

silverline is installed and sounds nice. a little louder than oe,more so under loaded conditions. cruising down the road ,not to loud. fits nicely, however when I got to the tip, it would not tighten up ,it was loose. so I went to back out the clamp bolt and the thing broke :{ , that I do not like. looks like I will have to tig it.
