Well I picked up another 1st gen with a 215 hp & nv4500 combo. Running powerpack <banks> all stock motor pulling 24lbs of boost. Milage is around 17-19 hwy. Approx 70,000 on recon motor. Where is a good starting point. Dyno showed 178hp to rear wheels last week. TIA, Mike

I would start w/ a TST torque plate, AFC spring kit. Either the #12 (230HP/605T) or the #11 (280HP/685T). I started with the #12 plate and then the bug catch me by surprise and then the #11, then injectors & turbo housing and I'm not done yet. Who knows where this will all end... .....

Have fun #ad

Hi Drawson, why did you recoment the spring kit with the 230/005 tst kit? I have the 230/605 installed and I was told by Mark at TST that they do not recomend it for this uprate kit only the higer HP ones.

Just Curious

The AFC spring kit is recommended with all 215 hp engine uprates.
Raising pump timing to 15-15. 5 will usually improve economy up to 2 mpg.
The 280 hp #11 plate takes the egt and torque to the max the stock turbine housing and clutch can take. If you want that much power, start saving for the 16 cm2 housing and a better clutch--sooner or later you will want them.
I prefer to stay very conservative #ad

609 hp is almost enough.

Oh come on Joe, Last year 510 was almost enough now it's 609 what is next 708? As far as the AFC spring kit goes. It makes it so that I can get the smoke pre-boost down to just a puff and still be responsive. To get it to be that responsive with the stock spring there was alot of smoke pre-boost.

I gotta agree with nopowerforme, I talked to Mark at TST also, and he did not recommend the spring kit for applications under 300 hp. Why the conflicting info?

Not really a conflict. If you have a 160, 175, or 180 hp pump, the spring kit is recommended for the high hp torque plates mostly (OK with all but not needed as much with #8,6 plates), that is, get the AFC kit if you have #5 or #4. With the 215 hp pump, tuning for minimal smoke with good response is easier with the AFC spring kit with any of the plates, #12, 11, or 10.
