Here is a little info on the lights. I use the HID





Baja Designs Soltek Single HID & Halogen Light



Finally, a lightweight (under 5 lbs!), integrated ballast, pedestal mount, 8” HID Light. Baja Designs – the leader in off-road motorcycle race lighting – brings more than 10 years of experience to the 4 wheel market. Not only are they racers themselves, but they support racers such as Johnny Campbell, Larry Roeseler, Ty Davis and numerous other Baja 1000 and Dakar racers.



Located at the top of the Soltek light is the Baja Designs patented, billet aluminum, Quick Adjust System. This allows for on the fly, up-down adjustment of the light – no tools required. Of course, each light also adjusts side to side. The light mounts easily to your existing bumper or roll cage using either a one or two hole mounting configuration located at the bottom of the chromoly frame. (The two hole configuration prevents the light from vibrating out of adjustment while driving). Since you don’t have to worry about an external ballast, mounting these lights is quick and painless.



This light weighs in at a slim 4 lbs 10 oz! Yes, that includes everything. The light is available in driving or pencil beam. It features a Tig-welded 4130 Chromoly frame, rubber vibration isolators, billet aluminum light ring, integrated HID ballast, all stainless steel fasteners, high quality Baja Designs glass optics and is double O-Ring sealed. HID components are neatly confined within a High-Impact glass reinforced UV nylon housing.

Cool, thanks for the info Greg. Back in the 90's I bought a Baja Designs dual sport kit to make a Dirt Bike street legal and it was a great product. Speaking of Larry Roeseler, I got a chance to ride in the same event as Larry-Virginia City Grand Prix in the early 90's and I thought I was going along at a pretty fast pace till he went by!



I took a look at those lamps on their site but didn't see what the wattage is. Seems like a great product for a motorcycle. As for light output are they any better than a Hella 4000 HID?

In my opinion, Yes! Much better than the Hella. They hold up to our abuse better too. Kroeker ran the Baja's with them and I have used them down there too. I have a wall of light that is 100 yards wide and 50 yards high at about 800 feet. Very bright and very clear. Great products. Call me for more info.

21466. 5. No person shall place or maintain or display, upon or in view of any highway, any light of any color of such brilliance as to impair the vision of drivers upon the highway. A light source shall be considered vision impairing when its brilliance exceeds the values listed below.



The brightness reading of an objectionable light source shall be measured with a 1 /2-degree photoelectric brightness meter placed at the driver's point of view. The maximum measured brightness of the light source within 10 degrees from the driver's normal line of sight shall not be more than 1,000 times the minimum measured brightness in the driver's field of view, except that when the minimum measured brightness in the field of view is 10 foot-lamberts or less, the measured brightness of the light source in foot-lambert shall not exceed 500 plus 100 times the angle, in degrees, between the driver's line of sight and the light source.

Exactly and the reason they have to be wired into the high beams so they go off in any oncoming traffic. Driving with just your OEM high beams on into oncoming traffic is also illegal.

I've had the cornering light version for a few years and love em. CA cops never give me any grief as I tied them to the high beams and always dim when I encounter oncomming traffic.
