OK guys, I have gotten pulled over 3 times now for modified exhaust. The third time I got a ticket. Heres how the statue reads in the state of colorado:

Section 4-225:
No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor.

That is word for word under the model traffic code for colorado. I live in the town of Fort Lupton and for some reason I must be getting singled out on this deal.

I have to some how get an exhaust which will quiet down my truck to stock decibel level but still have high flow if possible. Since I cant have my loud *** exhaust, is there anyway I could make my truck louder from the engine compartment? Increase turbo noise??

I have been seriously thinking about a cut-out, but those are illegal also.

I just need some creative ideas on this situation.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate it.

Maybe try putting a muffler on your truck, it will still flow enough and definately be quieter than your straight pipe.

Stans Headers actually told me the exhaust would flow better with the muffler than without, scavenging. For what it's worth and good luck.

One of the bigger exhaust companys did a write up/comparison and showed it's better to run with a muffler...

I have a Banks Monster muffler that I run with my 5" stacks and it sounds great. I ran the stacks straight piped for a few weeks, just way to loud with the windows down or up... IMO

i put a flowmaster on my '91 first gen and went from 16 lbs of boost to 13 lbs of boost...

although i don't doubt that the muffler manufacturers will tell you that their mufflers outflow a stock pipe ...

I don't think I would run a "Flowmaster" type muffler that has the baffles inside, but a straight through style with the perforated sides would be better.

Get a Rokktech Silent Might. It's a 4" straight pipe sleeved in a 9" acoustic cancellation chamber. It's supposed to be almost as quiet as stock, and flow better than a straight pipe in our RPM range. It ought to be quiet enough to get the law off your case. Click the link in my signature to read more about it.

I'm worried about getting a ticket as well. However I got a buddy that got pulled over for speeding and he has a 5" straight that dumps out just in front of his rear tire (short bed), and he was idling to let temps drop as he talked to the cop. Was it just a fix-it ticket or what? - Buck

I have 5 inch straight exhaust and I work for a police dept. But I live 50 miles from work and dont know any of the cops out here. So no one can claim immunity. But I got to tell ya no one has even so much as given me a second look with my exhaust. Most cops are not smart enough to know how much noise our trucks make so they leave you alone. Now if your hot rodding around town that is a different story. I never do that. :-laf

What did you do to it?

Well... . they know who you are now anyway. I would be curious what modified exhaust you have?

I have to some how get an exhaust which will quiet down my truck to stock decibel level but still have high flow if possible.
Since they are on your tail I would stay away from any of the aftermarket systems especially 5" that will only draw more attention and that includes even the tip.

If I were in your shoes with those mods and the trouble you have attracted I would install the factory pipes and this muffler in the recommended direction for least noise. (one direction is more loud than the other) Either that or a 51" Donaldson #M090544 from a local truck shop.

If asked... tell them you did better and installed an extra large muffler to make sure everyone is happy.

After you have been a good boy for 6 months you might sneak a 5" tip on just for show.

is there anyway I could make my truck louder from the engine compartment? Increase turbo noise??
For who? Just curious if the noise your after is for your ears or that you want others to hear you? The only reason I ask is I suppose I could brain storm some ideas but it makes a difference where you want the sound directed.

Are they stuck on two stroke? I doubt scavenging has anything to do with a turbo.
