dang , and it was just getting good ... . :p

greg b , you have a hair less HP than me , maybe similar since i don't have a comp ... yet ... there is a somewhat local member with a pdr 40 and another that is getting the B1 , maybe i can try to get together with these 2 guys , there mods are similar to mine and drive both ...

reason i started this thread is to get real world respnses , i could call a vendor and ask them and except for a select few , who know who they are , they'll give you the run around on specs and tell you there product is the best , even when they know its not ... the TDR membership as a whole is the best place to get the needed info ... for free ( ok almost ) no less ...

mark , i'll be in touch ...

TDR is the best place to get information, however its tough. Seems like to get the answers you really want you have to weed thru a lot of pom pom waving and cheer leading. In the course of cheer leading someone will imply ( whether intentional or not ) that some other product is not as good, bad, has problems, etc. Then someone will come out to defend this implication, and the fighting starts. And during this I always find it humorous to see how people ( including me ) will say anything to prove them self right. Often contradicting themselves and earlier statements in the same thread. Utimately the person who makes the post must weed thru this and draw a conclusion based on cheer leading or arguments. Which in either case is somewhat biased.

Now, after reading the above... I would like to question... Uh respectfully ask about the lack of interest in the H2e. There seems to be almost no favor for this turbo yet it almost sounds like the B1 might be too big for a lot of us. (based on higher EGT at freeway speeds, unloaded). I know that the exhaust of the 2e needs to be fabricated, giving some grief, but what else is there that has not endeared this turbo to us? Besides the 10% less flow. TIA, Greg.

It just happens that I drove a wicked 12v with an H2E a few weeks ago in denver... .

Cmonroe has one on his truck. he had to fab an adapter for the flange and a downpipe. It spooled very well on his truck. He has a 12v with a ported/o-ringed head, custom cam, piers stupid pump, huge injectors and a SBC ConFE similar to mine.

He's runnin 13. 8's in a 5spd, single turbo, #2 only, at 5500ft of elevation:--)

The only real problem is that the smallest housing is a 17 without going hybrid. after the machining and extra housings are bought the price of a hybrid ends up over a grand again... getting near B1 territory with a little less flow.

Later,

Mark

If you want to know more about an H2E on our trucks I would contact Strick-9. He has some experience with this turbo on the 5. 9.

After much research...

Check out this link for more information on the turbo debate. It's actually pretty good.

I contacted several people about turbos over the span of about 6 months. I finally decided on the B-1. I talked to HVAC about the B-1 (value his experience on the matter), Arron at Edge about his Pius modified H2e, and Al at PDR on the PDR 40. I also talked to several owners of each turbo and weighed it all out.

Each of these units have thier goods and bads. The H2e would've allowed me to keep my brake. The PDR 40 has good spooling characteristics and was a simpler installation. The B-1 flows more and is very tough. But they all had the downsides too. The PDR 40 was new at the time, and I don't like trying new products (remember the majestic debacle). Arron at Edge had hit the limit of his H2e and I had slightly more fueling than he did. Then there was the B-1. I had to make a new downpipe (righteous PITA cause I suck as a pipefitter), lost my brake, cost more, and lost some low end boost.

My decision to get this turbo was based on two things. First, I wanted EGT relief for the fueling I had. The B-1 seemed to provide the most. Second, I wanted this to be the last turbo I purchase. So I gave up a little to get this turbo. I knew what my fueling mods were going to get me into, and I did not want to screw around with twins.

Let me say this. This turbo may not be for everyone. Again, THIS TURBO MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE!!! I like the B-1 and am glad I got it. The increase in cruising EGT's aren't as horrific as I was told they'd be. Spooling, well, once you're moving it's a non-issue. But off the line it's kinda slow. But what do you expect from a big turbo. EGT's on the top end are down over 350*. So it does what I want well.

If you aren't going to throw tons of fuel into your engine, then this turbo probably won't work for you. You'd be better off with a PDR-40 (very good turbo) or 35, KS-35, AT-4, Pius H2e, or some other turbo. You need to decide what your application is (or is going to be) and decide on a turbo from that point. If you aren't going to go to Mega-mental injectors and you aren't going to sled pull, then you may not like this turbo. You'd be better suited for something else. Picking the right turbo, is more about final application and use than I first thought. Just my dos pesos.

Thanks Jetpilot, email is off to Strick-9. Haven't seen him around lately:confused: "some experience":D :D if you call > 600HP "experience":cool

Amianthus Dos Pesos well spent! Sure is hard to deciede when there so many good products with stand-up guys behind them. Hope to hear from S-9 before crunch time. Greg
