needed a spare 315-17-70 tire and called DISCOUNT TIRE in CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS ( s. p. i. d. and greenwood st. ) 1-361-814-7050 yesterday and they said sure, we have a set of used 315-70-17 in stock, sitting right here, $50 each. cool. i called em at 6:30 this morning, same guy says sure, they are right here, will be waiting for you. i called in to work and took the day off as i live 45 minutes away from corpus. got there and JACOB, the guy i talked to, goes to find em. comes back and says " guess the guy that cleaned up a few days ago threw em away. ". i said really, if they were so good, why did he throw em away, and why did you tell me they were sitting right here. his response? "call me every few days and maybe we will get some in. " i proceeded to tell him as loudly as i could that if i shoved his head up his ass i bet he could find me one in a hurry. i left just before the cops got there. he cost me a full days wages and 2 hours on the road. anyone know the address/number to a complaint dept for DISCOUNT TIRES ? as far as i am concerned we need to let each other know about places like this so the honest, good retailers can get our business. i've already had a couple of buddys call em and tell em they aren't going to buy tires from them any longer and why. anyone else want to also feel free.

Dude..... you need to grab hold of your ears and twist. This isn't the end of the world, and the guy didn't cause you to miss a full day's wages. You took off work, so you would have not gotten payed even if they were still there. The guy at the store was un-professional, he assumed the tires were there and was to lazy to get up off the stool and check. Getting rude and or yelling at the people in the shop isn't going to make the tires magically appear, it just makes you look stupid to a bunch of strangers, and in this case looks like it almost cost you a night in the poky. Do your business elsewhere, and get over it.

I guess it would have been cheaper to buy a new spare than to lose a days work. Plus two hours drive time plus two hours very expensive diesel fuel wear and tear on the truck . Oh yeah , doctor bill for high blood pressure RX. :{ :{ :{

I've always had good luck with Discount Tire and will use them again.

Not at minimum wage. :-laf

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Sounds like one from the school of hard knocks. I'll bet next time you'll ask the dude to go check and make sure they are there.

My lesson. On december 6, 2003 I found a 03 CD player for my truck on one of the forums for $50. The fellow mailed with an imcomplete address and it was delivered to a resort up the pass. Anyone old enough to lick stamps could have done a better job than he did. I waited for a month and a half and figured I had been scammed.

The resort sent it back to UPS and it got lost in limbo. Since he already had been paid he wasn't to excited about following up on what happened. So I thought it was money down the drain. IT FINALLY ARRIVED TODAY! :)

I'm w/ you, head up - - - make noise, would make me feel better anyway, I'm a man of my word and I expect persons that I deal with to be the same. If I would have been in that shop I would have shook your hand.

see, you get it! its tolerance for fools like this guy at discount tire by consumers that just shrug and go oh well that allows it to continue.

I agree that consumers need to stand up for their rights, but to take a "stand" that approaches going to jail seems a bit too much. Have to ask the question, "Who is the grown-up here?"

There a many more civil ways to express your displeasure. One days lost work isn't the end of the world!! I'm sure if you'd wanted to, you could have taken care of your business in less than half a day. But I know how that goes. Who wants to work half a day when you have a good excuse to take the whole day?

I have to go with nwcatman on this one boys. It's not uncommon for us here in Texas to make a deal with a guy several hours away by phone, and taking off work to get an errand done can be a big deal depending on your job and type of work. It AIN'T always possible for folks to change their work schedule at the last minute to return and work that remaining 1/2 day. As far as driving 2 hours for a tire, hey in a lot of the smaller towns here there aren't any tire stores at all and a trip in to the cities is an opportunity to take care of other business as well. Not like the guy drove 2 hours just for a chance to be an a-hole.

There are a lot of worthless people out there taking advantage of consumers, its a darned shame you can't give a guy a horsewhipping in a scenario like that anymore. A few stripes on that tail and next time he MIGHT have taken the effort to walk 50 feet over to the tire rack and verify those tires were there, instead of just promising they were.

same thing, different store

Went to Lowe's in Trotwood[dayton]OH and found a 400 buck vanity and a 200 buck medicine cabinet. Medicine cabinet had slight flaw that would not show once installed . Clerk who worked in plumbing called manager named Angel who told him over cell phone we could have 10% off Clerk wrote ID # of cabinet and initialed unit. Trouble started when medicine cabinet was in wrong box. The box it was in was medinine cabinet of same manufacturer ,but the cabinet it described had a built in light bar and cost $100 moreThe box had the light bar illustrated on it as well. It was obvious that the cabinet inside the box had no such light bar. So,we had correct number from clerk and wrong number on box. Angel then shows up at cash register and takes the cabinet back to check things out. All he had to do was compare this cabinet to the displayed model to confirm that clerk's ID number was correct. He came back with a new cabinet identical to the damaged one and NO DISCOUNT. [he did this while I was in the restroom ,because I had to wait so long]

To make life easier for the checkout, I had already paid for the cabinet base and some other stuff that totaled $500. Walking away was not an option. Who wants to be stuck with a $500 gift card to a chicken crap outfit like this? Every person in the store heard me call angel's name. After waiting for twenty minutes the last time,my polite phase was over. I quickly apologized to the cashier that she had to stand there and witness this, but also told her that I needed to go outside and jog this off before I did something really stupid. I told her that if that idiot Angel and her had two options--either give me the discount ,or all my money back--cash or check and no gift card as I would never come to this store again. After all,had I not caught their mistake,I would have been overcharged $100 for the cabinet

After I came back from my run, she had everything in order, and I got my discount. She said that once a customer became as upset as I was ,that she was allowed to do what it took to get that customer's issue resolved. [in other words ,company policy to get me out of the store] Had she done this before I became upset ,it could cost her her job. She also said that she had no doubt that I was not trying to defraud the store. I again apologized to her that she had to see the brunt of my frustration because of the mistakes of others.

I guess it ''paid ''to lose my temper, but the stress I went through was not worth the 20 bucks. Maybe I will grow up someday, but don't hold your breath:rolleyes: The next time I will not pay for a partial order, and politely inform the merchant that I will go run an errand, and if they cannot resolve my problem by the time I return , I will not purchase the other items in the cart.

Along the same lines as this with a 6 month old rv. We got to our camp site about 9 pm on Friday night and setup camp. My wife went in to shower and the fittings that feeds that shower head split and fell apart in her hand.

Next morning we headed down the street to where we bought our trailer to get the part under warranty. I found the part on the rack and went to find the sales person. We had the old part and I also had the new part that was the exact replacement. I told them the story and wanted to replace the part under warranty. .

I was told that I needed to bring the coach down to their service department and have one of their techs diagnose the water leak and then submit his reason to replace it. We were also told that since I had taken it off they were not able to warranty the part for the shower. There was nothing that they could do because their tech didnt look at it first. I tried to explain to them very calmly that we had come in last night after they had closed and did not have the chance to bring it in. Still the same story ... . By then a number of the customers in the story were standing around listening to the conversation. This had been going on for 15 minutes and I was not gaining any ground with the sales person. I finally got to the point that I had had enough. . The conversation went one sided. . and it was my side. By the time I finished saying my piece and plenty loud enough for the rest of the customers to hear what they could not do... the owner of the store stepped in and was more than happy to warranty the $15 hose. I dont like or care to act ugly but I was being told that they could not honor the warranty if they dont work on it. . For some reason the policy changed real quick. . I also sent a letter to the company with a detail list of events because of this little hose.

Would I go back and deal with the rv dealer and store again... yes! This event is in the past and its done with. . If I dont get the service that I need I call the company direct and let them know what is going on. .

I have had similar problems with customer service in the past. I have learned to elevate it real fast when there is lack of cooperation. If you elevate it to the the manager of the store or the preseident/owner, it is amazing when you have your facts straight and have resolve you most likely will get satification.

If it is not resolved at that point, you really shouldn't be doing bussiness with that company.

i agree. i owned/operated 3 small business for 6 years and i would do everything possible to keep customers coming into my stores rather than walmart. i guess what torqued me off the most was that instead of the jerk manager apologizing and offering to call me when they got the tire in, his attitude was go away, call me later, MAYBE i will do business with you then. uh-uh, i don't play that game.

This comes to mind...

nwcatman,

You just laid down $35,000 clams for a new Dodge, but you'll drive 2 hours for a $50 used tire?

Whats wrong with this picture. :p

Just Kidding with ya. :D

I'll ditto that. I always shop for a decent set of take offs before putting out the bucks for a new set. Means more money to play, i. e opportunity costs - the only thing I learned in Econ 101 !

After getting treated like poop when I bought a brand new 33' Aljo at Thompson Trailer Sales in Houston, I learned I will now do what I need to get it resolved then. I do not think it is too much to ask to have a trailer that pulls straight down the road.
