Competition J and H Nor Diesel Rally Results

Competition Small but STRONG !!!!!

We farm around alot of towers for the high tension lines, and have seen them working on the lines a few times. They even were shooting a training video for doing this kind of work on one of our farms. Talking with the guys one night when they were done filming, and he said one wrong move and the linemen and anyone in helicopter are dead. Just a little high risk for my blood, but I am afraid of heights anyway!

last time I saw them do that the line-men were in little baskets hanging from the wires. They would just pull themselves along like a ski lift. Definately not a job for someone with A-D-D, if a bird would fly by I'd forget what I was doing. :-laf

I saw a show about that on either Discovery or Learning channel. Way too cool, I'd never do it. The show was interesting, sometimes the guy transfers to the wires, he then rides on a harness down thru to replace clamps. (until he gets to the next pole!)

I'd like to know who on this board would do this Job

ME!! I've worked a couple chopper jobs. It really makes you one with the wire. :D

JFaulkner, The little basket is called a spacer buggie. When bundle conductor(2 or more wires per phase) is used, spacers need to be installed every so often so the wires don't bang into each other and destroy themselves. When you reach a tower or pole, you double safety yourself, pass the buggie around the insulator and keep going. Pretty simple.
