Lets talk about Limp Mode

Ok Yall,

Im here on yalls 3rd gen turf on behalf of a fellow 06 automatic Cummins owner, he has a SCT programmer and is going into limp mode in the hills of Colorado. ive talked to him twice today reseting it and he has just dropped his load off in Parachute, Colorado (he pulls for a hotshot company) and is heading back to Tx now. Is there a fix for Limp mode? the only reason i didnt post this on the 911 thread is because the thing still runs so bark at me to loud :-laf . thanks Guys and Gals... ... ... Jeremy

Did he disconnect his programmer (or revert to stock programming)? That's step 1.

Is he throwing any codes?

Lot's of 3rd Gen's are having problems with the high pressure relief valve on the common rail.

Should be, turn the ignition forward 3 times without starting then look at the mileage display for any codes. Works on my 05

nope that doesnt work on that 06

The 06 is a can bus vehicle It will require a scanner using that protocol. The factory scanner is called starscan and is availale to the retail market through miller tool. There are many reasons for a Cummins to derate it's power for self preservation. Check the codes it will point you in the right direction.
