There's many different configurations for AWD systems. But however the driveline configuration, often the shafts use constant velocity CV joints and the have either center differentials or viscous / electric couplers to differentiate power percentages between the front and rear axles.
I agree with the center diff/ full time/ non switchable deal, but what does joint design have to do with it? The 1 gen Ford Escape AWD has a CV at one end and conventional cross universals at the hangar and rear diff (which houses the center diff as well as the axle diff).

...but what does joint design have to do with it?

Here's a great short little video which clearly shows the harmonics that can be a problem with a u-joint system and how they are NOT constant velocity joints. Also you can see what I was trying to say about the Dodge front driveshaft and why so many people experience front driveline vibrations.

Thanks KATOOM, but I’ve seen that video before, and I understand the Dodge front shaft issue. In fact Ford has the same problem, with compound shaft angles.
I was just trying to understand your connection between AWD/ 4WD and cross joints vs. CV joints. I think you drew that into your comparison a couple of posts ago.

I know 1410 is a Spicer size, and AAM sizes are a bit different. I know that one (the main?) reason 3 gen trucks and up have AAM components instead of the older trucks traditionally using Dana/ Spicer, is the result of a material supply/ contract dispute when DCX took over (married) Chrysler at the time of 3 gen development.
The front shaft Ozy posted has 1410 parts in it, and that raised a flag for me. So, to put my curiosity at rest, I’ve spent the last hour putting this chicken scratch chart together using a few websites including Denny’s Driveshaft, and Ft. Wayne clutch.
I’m pretty confident on the accuracy of this, and I hope we all agree. It’s obvious to me that shaft Ozy favors is a custom piece using Spicer sized joints.
Enjoy!

Wayne, here's some info on the 13+ Ram front driveshafts. I've always found this website to be accurate through a handful of orders ive made over the years.

I never gave it much thought that the universals were of Spicer origin because OEMs - particularly our trucks - always have a Hodge podge of parts. Engines, transmissions (except the 68RFE), transfer cases, axles, all come from outside sources. I think the AAM 1415 is real close to the 1410 Spicer but not close enough to be interchangeable. Now that you mention it one would think the 1415 would be a preferred option. There must be a reason.
