A true story.
My mechanic friend Charles works for a late model used car lot. While visiting last month I noticed a 99 lexus RX300 on the rack. What got my attention 1st was the oil pan sitting on the floor with 3/8's of an inch black shiney sludge caked up on it. Charles said " his bosses good friends wife went out 2 years ago and leased the RX without her husband knowing about it. He refused to have it maintained. She said "it is knocking a little honey would you see what that noise is". Well husband thinks it probably just needs a good blowing out. To the floor it goes. It instantly spun a main bearing
She had only babied her leased Lexus and husbands lead foot was al it took.
Toyota (lexus) makes 6 different main bearing sets. When they turn a crank they match the bearings to it.
Sooo, to the junk yard they go. The replacement was to cost $9500. I never did hear what the junk yard charged.
This is what they got for "Failier to communicate"
36000 miles with no oil change.
