What would be considered "Normal" oil consumption

Does anyone know a source that offers a reman engine for an 06 Jeep liberty diesel? I have one here with rocker arm problems and coolant in the oil. $6300 from dealer.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt, sorry to hear of your ills. I happen to like the Libby CRD, though I've never been around one. Tell us more- what's going on, how had it been till now, and how many miles?*
In the grand scheme of diesels, 6300 for a reman isn't too bad if it includes the fuel system and turbo.*

Luckily not my vehicle just at my shop. Came in misfiring and running terrible. I think about 120,000 miles. Ended up finding the #3 rocker arms off but the bigger problem is coolant in the oil. They said that they had not been adding coolant, I have not torn it down far enough to determine the cause. The whole engine is full of sludge, after sitting for a while with the drain plug out there is a small "cow patty" of sludge sitting under it and the top end is full too. Even it was just a head gasket I am concerned about damage is done to the bottom end.

The $6300 was a long block with out any fuel components or turbo. I am thinking repairs are going to far exceed the value of it but just trying to make sure I have looked at all options.

My buddy has a CRD and a wrecked Liberty for a CJ conversion, but has changed his mind. I can find out if he wants to sell it. IIRC the pan was damaged, but you'll have that anyway.

CORRECTION: It is for sale. He had gotten the whole Liberty, and still has the vehicle and the engine.

Can you fit a 4BT in it? :)

If it was mine and I had the time to do a conversion I would check into it. Don't think it would be cost effective, I would think there would be lots of fabrication involved. Though it should have plenty of power.

PM me if he is interested in selling the engine and price. I would say we are too far apart to get the whole vehicle.
Thanks,
Matt

They have wet liners, the rockers are there biggest problem and the EGR system is there main problem. The after market EGR system improves this engine 100% and the in-tank fuel pump works wonders. There just a b----to work on. When my son and I finished his, It ran better than when new and mileage improved, and is fun to drive. You just have to maintain it very well and use the proper oil in it. Remember It's Italian, like the 3.0 and it has a like EGR system on it. This system needs to be cleaned often to keep the efficiency in line. And its a job no one will like to do.

PS-- My son has a liner and piston
he bought thats in good condition if you need one.
He was told he had a hole in a piston by the dealer. Which there was not.

Wore rockers are a common problem. In my observation, if the EGR was deleted early and it was run with 5W-40 (the "preferred" oil was 0W-40) oil the issue is rare. I don't know about a replacement engine source but IDParts is the best US source for parts.

There is no way to fit a 4BT in there.

Ours has nearly 200K and running great. Have a GC Ecodiesel on order since August. Still waiting thanks to EPA.

Replace the cylinder head if it's cracked and head gasket, replace rockers and perform a full timing belt and water pump replacement. As mentioned, delete the egr and egr cooler with a Weeks stage 2 kit and have your ecu reflashed at Green Diesel Engineering. Nobody remains these engines. If you need parts, idparts.com.*
