Life of Gasoline in storage?

Ok guys, I have a strange question.



Last year about Mid summer the wife and I took the boat down to fill up with fuel, after that we were only able to take it out once. So the boat easily had about 3/4 tank of fuel when we winterized it. When the boat was winterized, I went ahead and dumped in a bottle of Fuel Stabilizer in the tank.



Well this summer we were unable to take out our boat due to work and drought conditions, and the boat still has the Gas in it from Last year. How long will the gas stay good? Should I dump some more fuel stabilizer in it, or is it safe to just empty tank? If it is better for me to just empty the tank, what do I do with this 20 gallons or so of Gas? Is it still good to use in my ATV, lawn mower etc, or should I just dispose of it and how?

I would take the gas out if you have a use for it, it should still be good for the mower and atv. Just remember to fill the tank back to full for storage of the boat and put the stabilizer in. If you leave it partially full it will get condensation in it.

this happens all the time with our boat too. Winterize it and dont use it till next season. When we get it out next season we slam in some stabilizer and burn off the fuel. I will tell you it smokes more and their is less power as well so we just usually try and burn off that tank as quick as we can. Sounds like you are talking about leaving yours for 2 seasons though, that might be a little excessive as even after 1 winter that gas gets pretty pungent. Maybe your best bet would be to siphon out as much as you can use in your atv and lawn mower and then go top off the tank with fresh gasoline now before you winterize it. I would still slam in some fuel stabilizer.

dump the fuel , even w/ the stablizer it's shot after 3 months

& starts too turn into varnish , if you wan't too use it in your small engines mix it 50/50 at least but if it were me & my machines " mowers , chain saws , etc. " I would find a place to dispose of it properly , the $30-40 you'll save now will cost you 10 x that to fix the carbs & other things that old fuel gummed up

In my parts you could just go to the gas station and offer for free to the folks waiting at the pump, they'd probably fight over it.

I'd run it in my Toyota, but not in a boat...

Don't forget

After you siphon off most of the old fuel and fill with fresh, don't forget to run the boat up to burn that old fuel out of the carb. The old fuel sitting in the carb for two years will gum it up.

what if the boat is Fuel injected?
