life of transmission?

I'm in the process of an insurance mess. I wreck my truck, but its still drivable. My insurance wants to total it, but I have to drive it back to IN for them to look at it, I'm in utah going to school right now. I was thinking about letting them total it and going to a 2nd gen truck. I'm just wondering how much longer my truck will last or be have way cheap to keep running. I have replaced the injection pump and a vaccum pumple not to long ago. I'm wondering about the transmission. Its a 3 speed auto, never been touched (as I have been told) I have all service records for the truck and they show only fluid and filter changes. What is the expected life of the auto transmission. Truck is a little over stock, drove hard, and pull a gn trailer in the 10k range fairly often. transmission acts normal and shows no signs of going out as of tonight. What do you guys think? also 212k miles

How long do the trannies last? Well, I'm on my third one at 175,000 miles. It is different than yours as it has overdrive, I think that shortens the life.



Also depends on how you drive. I don't drive it real easy, that also contributs to the number of trannies I have gone through.

I think we have met at a stoplight late one night on the Purdue campus. It involve much reving of engines and letting the neighbors know that both trucks were straight piped I have seen your truck sitting on the north edge of State Street in on the the large parking lots too. Mine is a gray and black 1992 W-250 with a blue Cummins C in the rear window.



Anyway, to answer your question. My 518 auto has 191K on it and it has just been serviced. I drive it fairly easy except when it is towing. I am planning to adjust the bands over Christmas. I know of two other trucks on the stock 727. One has 350K on it and the other 150K. Both tow and get serviced every 40K. I think I would keep the truck and add a transmission temp gauge. I would also service it regularly and keep the bands adjusted. When you start it in the mornings, let it idle in neutral for 30 seconds or so to get the oil moving in the transmission. Hope this helps you a bit.

I've played with a lot of trucks up on state street at Purdue. I think i remeber yours. I lived in Harrison so thats why it was always in the huge parking lot. It sounds like my transmission could last a while longer, now if i could figure how to keep from twisting front driveshafts out thanks
