A friend of mine asked how much lift he would need to put on 38s.

I have no idea, but I told him I would try to find out.

The truck is a 2000 2500 qc 4x4 auto. If anyone has done it and could offer advise and manufacturers it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Scott

You could try calling Skyjacker (I think they have a 5" lift for the Cummins). A body lift may also be required (2 or 3") but that's a guess. Another, less popular choice, would be to do some fender trimming at a body shop.

Does your friend have 4. 10 gears already because if he doesn't, he's gonna need them. That'll run him another $1500 at least to change the front and rear.

I have the Skyjacker lift and with the weight of the Cummins it is about a 4. 5" lift and is advertised as such. I don't think that would be enough for 38" tires. Dick Cepek has a 6" lift for our trucks - it may be back in production, I'm not sure. There was a period of time recently that it went out of production when Mickey Thompson bought Cepek's assets. I was originally going to buy this lift, but was too much hassle to find all the parts for a complete kit. This was back in April this year. I'd agree that you're gonna need 4. 10's to have a drivable vehicle.

I have a 5" suspension and 3" body lift. Mine looks exactly like the one in ORU's web site. My 38"s were on 12" wide wheels and slightly rubbed on hard turns with bumps. I recently switched to 37" Hummer M/T's because my Hawgs were only C rated and separated while towing. Now, there are Swampers in 38's that are 10 ply, and I will use them when my Hummers wear out. With 4. 10's, I'm still a little over geared with the 37's. I like the way it pulled my toy hauler with the bigger tires. (2100rpm@70mph with 37's or 1900@75mph with 38's) hope this helps!
