Well, I am in the process of buying a lift kit, wheels and tires, bushwacker fend/flares, and side rails. Specs: 5 1/2 in Skyjacker stage 2, almost new 38" Dick Cepeks w/ american racing rims. I am buying this as a package for an ungodly price. I just cannot decide what I want to do. I want my truck to be fast, but then again I am a redneck. :) Will that kit fit 38s? I plan to drag race, hopefully in ATL(my truck is in the shop right now). How much will 38s take off my quarter mile? I am running 265s presently. What about a 34"tire(rare I know)? I just want to see what yalls opinions are. I can't decide... I might just sell the kit. The side rails are for x-cab so they will be in classifieds soon.

I'd love to put a well-engineered lift on mine. I'm sure that will clear 38" tires just fine since you can put 35s on without a lift. I think it will slow you down some in a drag race, but you can always change gear ratios.

As far as hauling a 5th wheel with the lift kit, I guess you'd just have to lift the trailer too!

Good luck,

Blake

HHHmmmmm, sounds just like me! Well, it is truly a dilemma. I have made it to the mid- 12's with my lift kit. It hurts me on my mph. Racing the 38's you will find out that the rotating mass will be extrememly detrimental on the driveline. I had to hone out the front driveshaft u-joint because of the angle. The tires are not rated for much over 80 mph in most cases anyway. I use 30" street racing tires when I drag race.

On my redneck side. It's like strapping on some Double D's on a blonde. Everyone looks, points, and turns to look at your truck! Get used to folks looking all over your truck in parking lots and about everywhere you go. I don't pay much attention to curbs and I have some of the roughest terrain just to get back on my property and the lift helps me clear some of the obstacles.

With the 4. 5" lift I only cleared the 38's by 1/2" without turning the wheels.

It's a little rough on parts. I have replaced every steering component with the exception of the steering box and it needs to be rebuilt. I also have replaced about every seal in the driveline from the vibration of the swampers.

You can have both speed and great redneck looks! It has limits, like most of everything.

Good luck and post pics when finished!

Thanks for the replies. I love how your truck looks Stackd-n-Jackd. It will prob be a while b4 I install it so maybe I can get all the ricer-racin in b4 the lift-n-tires.

How wide are the 38's ???

I have the Skyjacker 4. 5" and can only get 36" meats under her but they are 14. 5 wide. I just make full lock with no rubbing. The Parnelli dirt grips are a true 36" tall too.

Eric, what width where your 38's ???

Scott,

They were the swamper radial's I believe a 14. 5. I obviously just put one on and could tell I needed 36" so I ran around on 33" with that lift for two days.

I ran with 12. 5's for 8 months and hated them (35") the 36x14. 50 is the right fit for that lift. My Mickey Thompson's look great and for 8000 miles have about an 1/8" worn.

The 38s are 16. 5" wide. I cannot find a 5 1/2" skyjacker lift anywhere. It must be a 4 1/2. Does skyjacker even make a 5 1/2? Doesn't mickey thompson make a 34" tire?

Josiah:

Yeah, I will be there! I pray that my truck will be out of the shop, but if its not ready I am still going to ride up there w/ my buddy. I am bringing my camera to get plenty of pics of yalls rides.
