I changed my fuel filter on my 95,I started the truck and noticed something smoking on the lift pmp. It was the wire conection on top of the lift pmp. Its toast, had to tape the wires up and I cant get them to conect to the lift pmp.

The truck runs great, starts up when its cold. What is this for and am hurting anything in the mean time??

Thanks

There are many people on these forums that do not run a fuel heater at all. If you are not in a cold climate, the easiest thing to do would be to remove it. The problem with the fuel heaters is that they tend to cause an air leak in your fuel lines resulting in a hard start condition. If you are in a cold climate, there are people who feel that they do help some.

You will not hurt anything by running without it.

Thanks guys,I guess that is the pre filter that I was calling a lift pmp. This is my first 12 valve, were is the lift pmp located??

It sounds to me like you have disconnected the fuel heater. Keep in mind that there is a screen in there that filters your fuel before it goes into the lift pump. There is another thread going right now on whether it is okay to remove this screen. Personally, I would recommend against it. It is possible to actually remove the heating part of the fuel heater but retain the screen and keep all of the plumbing the same. If you do a search, you will come up with instructions on how to do this. I haven't done it myself since I still run the preheater so I can't give you any of the specifics but it sounds like the way to go.
