I just purchased a new lift pump part #4090046 (kit) from Cummins here in Artesia,NM for my 24V. ($77 including shipping)

I have a friend with a 96 12V. He & I were wondering if that pump would work on the 12V. Is there a difference? Somehow I suspect there is.

I am going to mount mine on the frame and he would also.

Thanks

You can if you have an aftermarket cam with the extra lobe for the mechanical pump! Several guys have dropped the cash on a cam just for this feature. If for some reason my AirDog ever bites the dust, I'll definitely go with a 12V lift pump as a replacement since I've got the cam now.

I love the fact that I don't have to worry about fuel pressure any longer. I did the cam just for that feature alone. You get all the other benies of the cam as well, but to have a good, reliable fuel supply..... well, you know.

It only took 5 lift pumps for me to see the err of my ways!

As has been said the 98. 5 trucks have an electric pump as opposed to the mechanical pump on your friends. My question however is what pump you can get for $77. My 12v pump cost me like $230.

$77 lift pump

Got it direct from Cummins in Artesia, NM. It is a replacement for the orig pump. Saw the reference to it here on the TDR site last week. Check the thread from 'the 70 dollar lift pump' by ChrisOlson on 2/17/2006.

Anyhow, the kit number is 4090046... . price is $64. 90 +/- plus shipping and tax. Again, from a Cummins dealer. Valley Diesel here in Artesia got it from Rocky Mtn. Cummins in El Paso, TX. Their number(Rky Mt Cummins) is 1-800-800-4240. Bought mine as a spare. Have had no trouble with the pump in mine at 113000 miles. Wish I could say the same for #4 oil cooling nozzle. That is another long story. Good luck... ...

Whats stopping you. There's lots of P-pumped 24-valve engines out there. Schieds sells the kits but I know Antrim Diesel of Greencastle can do It and so will East Coast Diesel of Lebanon

I believe he's referring to the 12 valve lift pump on a 24 valve.

It's what is on mine.
