After seeing members post on lift pump failures what are the options for keeping on from being stranded?

I am leaning towards the BD lift pump as a back up or finding a spare stock one.

For the BD I believe you are to remove the original lift pump and put the BD pump on the frame. What are the success rate of the BD setup?

Just concerned due to doing long trips and do not want to get stranded with a lift pump failure. Thanks for any assistance.

Check out Glacier Diesel Power. He has built a plug and play system using a Walbro pump. You can keep the stock one under your rear seat just in case the walbro fails on you to keep you on the road until you can get a replacement.

I'm going with this setup. I just have to scrape up the money first.

I went with the FASS system for mine. No you can't put the original back in (you don't actually remove it in your truck) on the side of the road without some prior planning, but you won't have to. I haven't heard of them failing.

I'm not anticipating the walbro pump failing necessarily, but everything has a life span. Being an electrical part, those always seem to work fine up until they just die. That's the only reason I would keep the factory one with me. I could just buy a replacement one from Cummins but I think they run about the same price.

Plus if I ever sell the truck I'd like the option to be able to put it back to factory specs. I know how much I hate buying a vehicle that's been hacked on and what have you.

Not too thrilled with the price of the FASS set-up.

For the cheap quality lift pumps from stock, I imagine it set back DC $10, one would hope there was a cheaper replacement pump. With the correct tools and spare pump one can change on the side of the road.

The Walboro pump looks like a decent alternative, just a bit annoyed that we have to dump 300+ dollars on a decent lift pump.

Not even running any mods just want reliability and ease of replacement should it die.

If you cannot fix these youself better not hold onto after the warranty expires.

If you don't want to spend the price of the entire FASS, they do sell just the LP. I believe it is a bolt-on just like the factory. I bought a spare from Cummins but now wish I had conisdered buying just the LP from FASS.

If you do buy a factory/Cummins LP as a spare be sure you have with you the hex keys and misc. tools to swap it out.
