JUST HEARD FROM CUMMINS THAT THEY ARE BOYH GONE. HAVE 130K. DOES THIS HAPPEN OFTEN? HAVE HAD TO HAND PRIME IT IN THE MORNINGS FOR A WEEK OR MORE. ON A RECENT TRIP, NOT

PULLING, STARTED LOSING POWER AND RPMS. FINALLY GAVE UP THE GHOST. WOE IS ME...

I have never heard of this happening in 3 years on these forums. The lift pump and injection pumps are super reliable on the 12 valves. I would suggest a second opinion before spending the money and a phone call to Piers would be a good idea and the pumps are cheaper from him if you in fact do need them but I would doubt it unless something really bad got into the fuel system. Good luck and keep us posted.

Give us more info on symtoms before failure and behavior at failure. What is the staus now? wont run at all? Where are you located? maybe a TDR member is close that knows what he is doing. A bad return line can cause some of the problems with starting and a $55 overflow valve can account for power loss.

BOTH LIFT PUMP AND INJECTOR PUMP GONE SOUTH

I AM SORTA AT THE MERCY OF THE CUMMINS DEALER. I HATE TO THINK THAT THEY WOULD STEAR ME WRONG. I TOO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THEM BOTH GOING OUT. RPM'S WERE DROPING, THEN POWER DROPING, OF COURSE, I'M 60 MILES FROM HOME, 10 MILES FROM A TOWN, AND KEPT PUSHING AND DOWN SHIFTING

TO KEEP POWER UP, TO MAKE IT TO TOWN. DIDN'T MAKE IT THO. LOTS OF BLUE SMOKE, EVEN SMOKE RINGS.

CALL THE HOOK. . I'M LOCATED IN TULSA, OK. HAVE USED CUMMINS SEVERAL TIMES. I NEED A TRUCK. . I'LL JUST WRITE THEM A HOT CHECK, THAT'LL FIX THEM. I DON'T WRENCH ON IT MUCH. NO TOOLS, NO KNOW HOW... NO DODGE DEALER FOR ME.

GOT TO RELY ON CUMMINS. .

:-{}

Don't write a hot check, they may come take your vehicle with a repairman's lien!

Cummins S. Plains in Tulsa?

They are honest folks. If you want have them change the lift pump and try that first s/b about $500 parts and labor. I also suspect the fuel return line and/or overflow valve, since you have been priming for the first start in the am, so maybe another $350 or so parts and labor.

Normal maintenance, wear items.

If that's only part of the cure I bet they are letting you have a reman (RE-Con pump) for about 1500 +/- plus the r&r labor, which is cheap/good pricing.

I would love to make Pier's a sale, but do you want to pay overnight freight on a pump? I'm betting your pump is ok, unless they believe it was contaminated, dirty fuel filter, fuel contamination etc.

Call me and I'm glad to walk you thru a few questions you can ask them. 972-398-3934

Good luck,

Andy

thanks for the reply Andy. It won't be a bad ck. I'M GOING TO STEAL MY WIFE'S CDT CRD. . THEY HAVE THE PUMPS BOTH IN, AND CANT GET IT STARTED. I Am suspect about that being the problem. i am at their mercy. i love my 97, and don't want another truck, so will keep trucking on.

ps. . i fish texhoma a lot in the fall, contact me and we'll wet a hook. not far from plano...
