Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift pump and pressure guage???

Hello all, I just retired an 89 350/cummins, its replacement is an 02. I changed lift pumps 5 times in 195000 on the 89, one inj pump and many injectors. So wanting to avoid lp problems with the 02 I want to add the guage now and buy a new lp pump, where do I get the guage, is it a kit thing and what is the cummins part number for the lp pump. My 02 has 39m miles registered and I drove it home 214.



My 89; D350, 6bt, standard cab, 8 foot box, 4:10, tf720 3spd auto,bought new by my Dad. My 02 is qc, 2500 8' box, 4 spd at, 4:10 with a nice option package. Tom

The gauge that you get depends on whether you want it to be permanent, temporary, in-cab, or under the hood. I bought a mechanical fuel pressure gauge and mounted it permanently, that way I'm always getting fuel pressure readings. When I was doing research on the type of gauge, I read in a few places that the mechanical isolator is more reliable than an electric one. I'm not sure if that still holds true. You may need to buy a tapped banjo bolt from Geno's, but call him to make sure.

tajensen is right on. I have an Isspro mechanical in the cab. While mine runs fuel to the gauge, I have not had a problem. Others are concerned about having the fuel inside hence the isolator.



My dad and I run the same setup.

Just put one in fron Geno's electric and it showed 5. 5 at idle and 5 running at 60 and 2. 5 WOT with the trailer. When I took it to Dodge they said the pressure was fine. I have to call Genos in the morning.

FYI you can also use a boost gauge for FP. For your application there really would be no need as there are many in the range of psi's you need to cover, but, when I needed a gauge that went to 30 psi's and wanted a mechanical gauge, there were not any good choices. I mounted a Autometer Ultralite 0-30 boost gauge on my hood using the braided ss line, works well and has been for a few years now.

Replace to lift pump ASAP! Get it from Cummins West... $142 with the 10% discount you get when joining the Cummins Power Store Club. Keep your old one as a spare, since it kinda works and won't leave you out in the boonies.

Change it yourself; just remove the fuel filter casing screws in the left side of the block and tie it out of the way, then pull your lift pump... 15 minutes max! The manual tells you to pull the starter and go in from below-- what a crock! They print this in the manual to increase labor costs, but then do it the easy way, saving an hour of time... (who do they think they're fooling--- not any TDR reader
