There's nothing technically wrong with that pump, except it's the same unreliable design as the one you have now. It's only advantage is the direct bolt-on replacement with no work on your part.

I put one on mine and got a spare.

Exact same unit as stock with a prefilter.

MIne didn't die but with 109,000 km. I didn't wan't to take a chance. Works fine

I think I am going to start buying those from Genos,I like the fact you can replace that Pump in 10 minutes with just stantard tools,The factory Pump will support some additional Hp if good. I have seen the factory pump last anywhere from 30K to 200K.
 
I know it's the same unreliable design,but how unreliable.



I have 76K on this one with no issues.



I don't need any more fuel for the current or future power.



I will buy one because it's one of those things that I can change on the side of the road if/when it goes out.

Well, then I say go for it! You've obviously thought this through. Like I said, there's nothing "wrong" with that pump, per se. If it works well for you, that's all that really matters.

i'd get one if i thought they were gonna discontinue. for reliability it probably would not hurt to install a pusher by the tank, as from what i understand these fact. pumps don't like to pull nor did the 2nd gen 24valve pumps that's what kills em

i ditched mine after smoking it at 110k and built a pusher setup w/2 pumps (fact. 2nd gen 24 valvepump and similar carter hey it's what i had) hardest part was machine work i built fitting at back of the filter housing but i thing Glacier sells on now fo @$40 well worth it even if you have a lathe and mill unless you wanna tinker

I also have a FP guage so I should know when it stops pulling fuel.
 
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but this thread has given me an idea. Would two of these lift pumps plumbed in parallel and mounted on the frame be able to supply the needed fuel for some of the guys who are bombed? I know the filtering capacity is another issue, but the dual pumps would add an added element of reliability. If one failed, the other one could continue to run the truck at stock power. Any thoughts?

Not stupid at all. That would be a fine way of getting extra fuel, and providing a redundant system.



The problem is, you probably don't want to use this style pump. The output is a special fitting for the fuel canister and is non-standard. Unless you've got a mill or lathe I don't see a way to make an adapter to run two in parallel.

I didn't know that! I do wish I had a lathe and a mill though. There's lots of little goodies I could make. :)

If I didn't work in a Machine shop a mill and a lathe would be cool to have at home.



Once you use them all day long, those projects don't seem like as much fun anymore.
 
I just got the replacement factory lift pump from Genos today.



Where does the little inline filter go that came with it? I have never seen one on my truck and it's raining a bit much to go look now.

The trucks didn't come with this from the factory. I assume you have to plumb it in the rubber line at the pump inlet as you see fit.

Now what I am wondering, how much will this restrict flow?



You read my mind. Given that pump is weak already, is it wise to restrict at the inlet even more? There's already a strainer in the tank, isn't that enough? Only time will tell.

I have had NO filtration issues at 76K.



I wonder if this will install without putting that filter on?



I will have to crawl around this weekend and see what it looks like.
 
That is a prefilter, not sure of the microns but it's desined to filter small stones etc. to protect the pump. Freightliner has been using them for years on the mechanical 5. 9 and 8. 3 . Will take a long time to plug it up but will probably add to the longevity of the pump.
