I'm about to change my lift pump at 100K as a precaution. It's the original pump... just lucky I guess. Anyway, the factory manual doesn't say anything about blocking or plugging the fuel line from the tank. I planned on running the tank low, but expect SOMETHING to drain from the line when I disconnect it from the pump! Any hints from "experienced" members?

Thanks

Ed,do a search for "15 minute lift pump change" everything you need to know for the job. Takes about 30 minutes though! Jim G

Take it down to a quarter. That should be lower than your inlet side line to the lift pump. Diesel won't flow uphill as long as you keep that line tied up. Don't let it drop below the tank level.

However... you can still expect a little spillage as the lift pump itself holds some amount and the lines will be full when you disconnect. Just stack up some old towels underneath when you remove the lines. Don't do it from below or diesel will run down your arm and into your shirt in short order if your touching the line. Work from above.

You shouldn't have a flow out of the line at all.

If you don't have a FP gauge (either test or permanent) you should. No sense in spending a couple of bills and your time if the one in there is working properly.
