Hey,

Has anyone had good luck by relocating the stock lift pump from the engine to a remote location such as the frame for instance, to prolong it's life/

or are these things inherently bad and must be replaced by aftermarket stuff?

First, fire up the search engine on the site, next sit down with your favorite beverage because you have a whole lot of reading to do. Search for lift pump or lift pump relocation and you can read until your eyes bleed. This topic has been discussed and is discussed on a regular basis. Welcome to TDR

I relocated mine with the vulcan kit. It worked out very well. I only did this becouse i didnt have the 500 buck to shell out for a f. a. s. s. like he said there got to be a million posts on here for your reading enjoyment.

When my lift pump was replace under warranty last year, I relocated it with the Vulcan Kit. I put an isolation valve and Fleetguard pre-filter to pump, leaving the OEM filter in place. This way it will be easy to change either the filter or pump. After 10,000 miles I've had no problems. My reason for this system was the availability and price of the aftermarket systems. I carry a spare pre-filter (ff-105), Cummins pump and the OEM filter. I feel like I've got it covered.

yes, relocating the factory pump to the frame will help but relatively speaking in terms of weeks as opposed to months or years.

Many people have reasonable success with adding a 7psi Carter pump on the frame, and replacing the plumbing with free flow hoses and fittings. Even this is not necessarily a bullet proof solution, however numerous people have had good solid success with it.

I relocated the factory lift pump to the frame just ahead of the tank about 3 years ago. The factory lift pump ran 80k miles before it started doing funny things. I got a new one under warranty, so I replaced it. The truck now has 137k miles on it and the pressure is still good.

I would also recommend the Vulcan kit or something similar. The bigger lines and fittings do WONDERS for fuel pressure... without the added complications of a pusher pump!!!

I'm going to bite the bullet and ask the dumb question, but on the Vulcan relocator kit, does it matter if you have the bottom or top access filter assembly on the Lift Pump/Fuel Filter assembly?
