Hi, I am relatively new to the Gen 3 section - we have had a Gen 1 for a couple of years and love it, which is why I bought myself a Gen 3 :) It is an 03 HO 2500 4WD with 64K on the clock.

I bought the truck a couple of months ago from a private party and it is well maintained with no apparent hard use (not that the rig would suffer from hard use!).

Last weekend the truck would not start and stranded me in the parking lot of a shopping center at 8. 00 PM. Got is flat bedded home. Consulted the great TDR BB and learned how to read the trouble codes - got a P0628. More research - looks like a lift pump isse. Got it towed to the local dealer courtesy of the free roadside assistance that I found out about on the TDR.

The dealer had it for a couple of days and just called me back saying that yes it is the lift pump that is bad. It is covered under the warranty, but that the nearest lift pump is in TX and won't arrive here in CA 'til next week - expect to get my truck back late next week!! There is a $100 deductible for the warranty work - the dealer says that this is otherwise a $1,400 repair!!!

So, first off, thanks to the TDR BB I have saved my self time and money. And thanks to all the folks who post info and responses to the many questions that arrise. I hope I can return the favor.

The money I just saved is being invested in a set of much needed guages. Thanks folks!

Call D. C. Don't think the fuel system/engine warranty carries the $100 deduct. Thats a powertrain deduct and lift pump is NOT part of powertrain warranty. Its fuel and engine warranty. Call 1-800-992-1997 with vin handy and get the deduct clarified.

DP Ketchum is correct. No Deductable on lift pump!!!!! Or the injector pump, both are covered. I had Two lift pumps & one injector pump & all was covered ,No Deductable. Good Luck

Got the truck back yesterday - the dealership had to wait to get a lift pump from DC. Funny thing, when I called the DC 800 number to verify the warranty and deductible I was told yes, there was a deduct. When I picked the truck up there was no charge/deductible. Wierd. Oh well, onward and upward.

Thanks for all the help.

The lift pump is covered by the 5/100 diesel emissions warranty. I just asked the warranty clerk here. They tell me that everyone gets charged the $100 (just like I did 2 weeks ago), because no one can figure it out. Lets just say I wasn't too happy about that and I'm getting the $100 refunded back to me.

Thanks DP!! Your post saved me and others a $100.

The in-tank install was not bad. I ended up doing it myself in the parking lot because the 8,000 pound lift would only raise my truck up 3 feet off the ground. The tech was :{ . Spooled-up's tank vent kit went in at the same time.

The DEALERS have a policy and proceedure book that is suppose to be in easy reach of all in service. I have used them on DAILY BASIS on many differant models. STOPPED many a CHARGE BACK FROM A REP cause I looked up the POLICY first before going further and THEN had to show a REPS noise in it and say SEE! Chezz. Its NOT a guessing game. P. S. lots of TECHS do tank work with truck on the ground.
