Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift Pump Failure

Driving home this evening the truck started to cut out and smoke a little bit. Fuel pressure gauge(mechanical) read zero. It eventually died and was hard starting. No check engine licght. I have a carter pusher pump and i would bump it with the ignition and nothing. It does cycle the carter pump but reads no pressure. Ran the trouble codes and came up with: 1693, 500, 216, and 236) Should i disconnect battery cables, replace lift pump, and go from there? Any ideas would be appreciated.

The trouble code list is in the 911 forum. 216 is Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure, 236 is Map Sensor Too High for Too Long, 500 is No Vehicle Speed Sensor and 1693 is DTC Detected in ECM or PCM.

Sounds like more than a lift pump failure. If that is all that it is, then why buy another faulty electric pump? I am installing the RASP system (on my fourth lift pump now).

What is the RASP system?

The "RASP" is a belt-driven(off the crank) mechanical fuel pump that tees into the stock L/P for priming, if the belt falls off, etc. Great system but pricey with all the plumbing required, but worth it. www.powerbypoole.com is the guy to talk to.

I added BD lift pump kit and havent had to replace lift pump since it took the load off lift pump and I can hold fuel pressure at w. o. t. all day long
