replaced at 80000

My pump didn't completely go (at 80000 miles) but had lost 1 or 2 lbs from it's normal (12lbs) when I replaced it right before a long trip. The exterior looked horrible (spotty rust) and I didn't trust it.

I just lost my lift pump and injection pump at 44,500 miles.

My truck is stock except for a BHAF

I do next to zero towing. I drive my truck every day. My commute is 43 miles each way 38 highway downhill to work 9750 to 5280 and obviously uphill on the way home. When I'm not going to work I'm off on a hunting trip. That's why I have 44,500 miles in 15 months.

I noticed some surging and skipping 3-4 weeks before I started seeing codes 1693 121 122 and another. I took it in to Christopher Dodge in Golden and had both pumps Lift Pump Part # 5015723AC Injector Pump R501965AD and the accelerator linkage assembly Part #53031576AC replaced.

ALL part were replaced all under warranty like it should be. I was ready for a fight but everything went smooth.

No questions asked and overall great service.

I'm in the market for a fuel pressure gauge. I sure don't want to foot the bill after my warranty runs out.

I've done several searches and can seem to find a Fuel Pressure Gauge kit. I think I can install everything myself but it sure would be easier if I could find a kit.

Can anyone recommend a kit?

just lost my lp at 88000. truck had been surging and skipping for a little while. it had set code 1693 which i believe is fuel injection pump timing failure. the dealer replaced the lp under warranty and cleared the codes. the next day it had reset the same code, so now its at the dealer hopefully getting a new injection pump.

Don't put too much in the year models

Nothing agin your poll, my 98. 5 "voted" in it with a lift pump failure. But the poll won't pin down a particular year model for bad lift pumps. You're naturally going to see a lot of lift pump failures on the older higher mileage 98-99 trucks. There will also be a lot of 2001's also because according to the preliminary membership poll approximately 25. 4% of the TDR (the largest percentage by year) owns 2001 models. And of course both polls are skewed by whether or not all the members vote.

All of the lift pumps have an inherent design weakness that will eventually lead to failure. Got gauges?:p

Just for what's it's worth. I'm at 16k (yes - that 16,000!)and am on l. p. #4. :--) The last three were the latest and greatest p. n. pumps.

what???

What??? The latest and greatest going out??!!!!!! I thought the lastest and greatest (which I just installed) were the bullet proof ones and they had solved the problem. I guess I had better order the pusher pump.

When I had my SPA fuel pressure gauge installed at 45K miles, I found my original lift pump had gone to the Great Bombing Ground In The Sky..... I have no idea how long before that point it had died, as I didn't have an FP gauge yet.

Replaced with a new one from Cummins West, added a 7 PSI Carter pusher pump a few weeks later. Now have 56K miles, going strong so far.

New lift pump went on around 45K. The old one still functioned (held a little under 10psi at idle), but it would pull to 0 at WOT.

This new pump has been on since (now at 70K), still holding 12-13 psi at idle, 8 psi at WOT.

I WANTED TO VOTE TWICE ON THIS ONE. HAD A 99 THAT LOST THE L. P. AND THE VP44 AT 27,000. NOT HAVING MUCH FAITH IN THIS MODEL YEAR AND THE RELEASE OF DISC BRAKES ,A 01 WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY. I AM CURRENTLY AT 31,000 AND ON THE 3RD L. P. WITH OUT ANY MODS. I HAVE A FULL SET OF WESTACH GAUGES WHICH WORK GREAT BUT COULD NOT FOR WORN ME AS THE LAST WENT OUT LIKE A LIGHT. I ENJOY THE TRUCK BUT PLANING YOUR VACATION ROUTE ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIPS IS GETTING OLD.

I just talked to the sevice manager at a local dodge dealer,

he said they just had a truck in today that needs a lift pump.

He said they changed the filter and after, no pressure.

I'm wondering if this is a bad lift pump or just an inablility by the dealer to prime the system.

Last time I changed my fuel pump, I also installed fuel press gauge, it took me 2 hrs to prime the system, had to pressurize the fuel tank and hook up a constant hot to the lift pump, with the banjo on the vp44 cracked just a bit.

I'm on my 3rd one in 30k since I bought my truck used with 77k on it. The first one would bottom out on acceleration. I found it right away after I installed the gauges. The second one was getting weak, 10 psi at idle. The one that's on it now works great when the lift pump is running. I've got a thread started on that one in this forum.

Bought my 2000 used in 2002 with 56000 miles. I installed a FP gauge promptly thereafter. 7 psi at idle, 5 at cruise, 0 WOT. Dealer replaced it, no questions asked. With my luck the vp-44 will go out at 100,001 miles
