I agree that we should do another poll. Maybe one for those with no engine fueling modifications. The problem is most guys that have stock engines probably don't have a fuel pressure gauge.

It would be hard to tell if the pump was starting to fail or was weak without a pressure gauge.

I think the stock lift pump is borderline on a stock engine and DC should have had a much improved free factory replacement for it by now. I don't think anyone can realistically expect the stock pump to hold up to any fueling hop ups because it can barely keep up with the stock engine.

I guess it is about time I installed one!

High numbers?

Looks like I'm safely past the first hump in the poll distribution (trend analysis) with another 20k miles to go before the next one. I know there's been a couple of high mileage trucks out there from time to time and was wondering if anyone out there in this category had yet commented?

Seat of the pants told me something was not right. Ordered a mechanical fuel pressure test gage from Rip Rook. Lift pump bad at 75,000 when checked. No gages. New pump from Cummins. Runs good again.

My lift pump went out at 53000 and then the new one went out less that 80 miles later. It also took the injection pump out with it when went. Internal mechanical failure.

19,000

02 with 19000 mi, I thought I would check it at oil changes but went with a in cab guage. good because my GF borrowed the truck and she was taught about the other guages but not the FP. she got home I hop in no fuel pressure. DO not think that you will check it at oil changes, when it goes out you will lose your injection pump. I ran MMO, had high flow banjos and had changed the filter. The stock units are junk. junk where they are and junk if you move them.

I said screw this and went with the FASS. I am happy-- truck idles smoother, starts better, acellerates faster and I have about 2# more boost, and the guage is at 12 psi with NO fluctuation, the last two equal more power in my experience.

I posted 80,000 plus but I actually don't know because my VP44 died at 94000 and the shop said that my lift pump was dead too, I suspect it could of died around 80000. Of course a guy would never know for sure BECAUSE DODGE FORGOT TO PUT A FUEL PRESSURE DUMMY LIGHT IN THE DASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UMMmmmm, well yeah - that and the FACT we seemingly can't get across to owners the NEED for proper guages, regardless of whether DC chooses to provide them or not!

OF course, human nature being what it is, it's always EASIER to simply blame the vehicle maker... ;) :D

Lessee, they could ALSO provide tire pressure warnings, low battery water warnings, low transmission fluid warning, low differential warning, etc. , etc...

BUT, how many of us would want to PAY for all that stuff? ;)

For less than what DC woulda charged, I put in my OWN aftermarket guages - got the ones *I* wanted at a price *I* was willing to pay - NO regrets - and NO ONE to blame for related failures if they occur but myself!
