I know there has been a ton of lift pump threads, but wanted to specifically know if there is a higher failure rate in hot climates. I have 85K on my 2001. 5 and am on the second lift pump, having been replaced at 63K.

I just got home from about a 3K trip to Palm Springs, CA where the daily temperatures were over 100° F every day. On more than one occasion, the lift pump would quit and I would have 0 or or a negative FP. The lift pump worked fine on the return trip, BUT temperatures were more on the order of 80° or less, all the down into the high 20's this morning.

Do folks that live in the Southern US in hotter climates see this correlation with failed LP's and the heat?

Someone here was suggesting that it may be cold temperatures that cause them to fail because the fuel is thicker.

FWIW, I'm still on my original after 32,000.

Mines still original at 100250 miles, summers are kinda mild here, probably less than 3 months over 110* and only a few weeks over 115*

It's been another long hot summer and last month the idle pressure changed from 16 to 8. But unlike everyone else on acceleration pressure goes back up to 14. Took 3 weeks to order new one and am about ready to replace.

Original pump and has 40000 mi.
