Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump flow

I am looking at adding a new pump with my exzisting lift pump and also add a gauage. so dont have to be so pernoid about gernading my vp44 . the company i work for has the carter lift pumps and i can get it at cost wich is like 70$ it is 100gph-at10 psi. and i dont know if that is enough for my truck i am adding the edge comp wich will use some mor fuel and i dont want to do any more harme than what has ben done what do you guys sugest thanks josh

I would suggest getting your gauges in first. Some lift pumps do better than others, you might have great fuel pressure, you might not, you never know until you have a gauge. Then, if you are having low pressure start worrying about how to fix it.



I'll tell you this much, if you are pulling below 5 psi at full throttle, don't do it for long. I was sucking down to 0 when I first threw a code for the injection pump, the sad part was I had the fix for the lift pump in my tool box. At least now I can say I've changed a VP44.

thanks i have neglected putting the gauge in for the fuel pres. and that is what i will do do you recomend any one gauge that is good quality and not over expencive. how mutch should iworry about puting my edge comp box in befor i get that gauge in thanks Josh

I wouldn't run the comp until you've got gauges. That's hypocritical on my part though, I got my original comp at 7,000 miles and didn't get gauges until around 15,000 miles. It turned out that my fuel pressure was holding up great, and my EGT's were fine when empty, but I wouldn't do it again.

It sounds like you are ADDING that pump to the existing stock LP in what we call a "pusher pump" setup - if so, the pump you mention will provide plenty of flow and PSI - it sounds like a Carter 4600...
