I want to install fuel pressure and turbo boost gauges on my new 2002 CTD.

1. It appears the column mounted gauges look and function the best. Comments?

2. I've been reading all the posts about erractic fuel pressure readings and am confused which is the best location to tap in. Also issue 36 gives install directions. Is this the best way to go? 3. I would think there is a 'snubber' available to dampen out the vibration. We used to have them on shipboard equipment.

4. Hasn't anyone had a heart to heart with cummins/Chrysler regarding the lift pump problems? Too bad they couldn't stick to the good old mechanical pump driven off the camshaft.

Maybe the TDR webmaster could put all the "posts" together and come up with the definitive answer/solution for installing fuel gauges. :)

rockcrusher,

I have an 02/HO/six and am just about to install fp gauge, egt and boost gauges. The guy from Geno's told me to install fp line where fuel line enters injection pump. From that point install via fitting a grease gun line (or similar line) to fp sending unit mounted away from injector pump (say on firewall). That position will not allow vibration from injector pump to destroy sensitive fp sending unit. I have not installed this yet. However, several other postings have done the above and fuel pressure readings are steady. Will let you know how my installation works. best regards, willard

I've done exactly that Rockcrusher - even published an article in the magazine on both the lift pump solution I used and the fuel pressure gauge I used. After a while you get sick of posting the same thing over and over again. Not everyone agrees though - so you'll have to make your own decision. Here's the links to the solutions that are on my truck: SW fuel pressure gauge, pusher lift pump

Rockcrusher,

The two gauges you need to watch most would probably be Fuel Pressure, and EGTs.

Have you thought of a 3 gauge install?

Thanks for the input. I'll bet you do get tired of the same old stuff. I see lots of questions like mine and appreciate you puttinig up with us new 'greenhorns'. My pld 1990 CTD was simple and easy to take care of, but have to adjust to the new "state of the art". :D :D

It's a shame we keep blaming Cummins andDc for the bad lift pump.

The lift pump is used by Cummins and Dc for the ISB engine .

But it is made by Carter. Yes,it is a shame that they can not seem to get Carter to produce a better one or even change venders

Problem is that Carter (now Federal Mogul) told Cummins and DC that the spec for the pump was for it to be within 3 feet of the fuel source. Which it most definately is NOT on our trucks. This is a case of the big guys not listening to the supplier on their specs. This happens all the time - I have many friends that are engineers for both the big 3 and the suppliers.
