how loose should the fuel heater element be once you remove the fuel strainer? I removed mine in my seemingly never-ending quest to cure my hard starting problem. The fuel heater element was loose when I went to replace the gasket on the bowl. I didn't tighten it at the time because I wasn't aware it was held in place by a hex head bolt. I guess I am just tryng to keep from re-doing something I should have done right the first tme. Also, when I got it all back together I noticed that the boot covering the push button primer was torn and it leaked fuel whenever I pump it. I am guessing that you guys are going to tell me it is time to replace my lift pump, huh? Lastly, has anyone installed a FASS system on a 95 CTD? Would that be better than a replacement mechanical lift pump?

If memory is correct, I believe one of our members replaced an o-ring to stop this leak.

Something to reseach or check on before replacing pump if it is good health otherwise.

The fuel heater is held on with a screw that can be removed with an allen wrench. It should be tight. If it's not, then you will have an air leak.

The push button is plastic so be careful in removeing it. It has a large O-ring that is what leaks. I got a replacement at NAPA for about 50 cents.

Mine leaks when priming too. I assume it isn't necessary to remove the pump to replace the o-ring. Is the plunger held in by a snap ring?

Remove the button cover. The button is screwed in. Be careful because it is plastic. I use some Silglide from NAPA to lube new O-rings for installation.
