Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lift Pump Installation

i am going to install a new lift pump this weekend, it is my first install. any tips or tricks from those of you that have done it before? not looking for a "how to" response, but if there are any unusual issues that you have experienced during the install or any tips that have made the installation easier, i would greatly appreciate any suggestions. thanks.

Make sure you don't lose the sealing washers... there are two per banjo bolt...

Move the fuel filter out of the way and go through the top. And use new washers on the banjo's, piece of cake

Use a thin flat 7/16 wrench between the bracket and the pump to hold the stud from unscrewing from the pump. Do not put it back onto the side of the engine. Get a Vulcan relocation kit and put it down on the frame. SNOKING

If you are limber enough, take a thick towel and drape it over the valve cover, and climb right onto the valve cover with your knees. It makes bending over to reach everything a wee bit easier.



The other thing that helped me, since I really could only get one arm down there comfortably while leaning on top of the engine is that I wrapped a piece of string around the bottom of the new LP, that way I pulled the studs tight up against the mounting bracket from underneath and held the string with my knee, that way I could put the nuts on the studs without fighting gravity. Hope that makes sense.

Hold off on replacing it one more weekend (unless it is already dead) and order a vulcan big line kit and move the pump to the rail

thanks for the info supermod56, i was thinking that it would be easier to do from the top, thanks for confirming. swapped it out this afternoon way easier than i was thinking it was going to be, thanks to everyone for all the input.



i am in the process of installing all the items in my signature, including the bd aux pump. they offer a bypass kit to get rid of the stock lift pump but i opted to just assist the stock lift pump instead of getting rid of it. thanks again everyone.
