Here's the deal... My fuel preasure has been flutuating for the past couple of weeks and getting more frequent. Every couple of days I'll get 0 presure but the engine still runs fine. After a few minutes the presure will come back up to 12 psi. How can the engine run with 0 fuel presure? I stopped by the dealer today and they said sure, it's covered under warrentee but they have to see the presure drop. Problem is when I'm there everything is normal and I'm not giving them my truck for a few days for them to play with. I don't mind just replacing it myself but they want $365. 00 for a new pump! Is the pump cheaper at Cummins? Or whats the best aftermarket solution?

Go to a cummins store and get the pump for +/- $140 and install it yourself or let the dealer have your truck for a day. If your press is that bad it ought to be easy to see if they check it.

Welcome to our club :D ! If it makes you feel better it has a LARGE membership :( ! As JR2 said you can get a pump from Cummins for about $140. Be glad that you have a fuel pressure gauge, many don't and wouldn't know what you do. You may want to start researching option for a pusher pump or a replacement aftermarket pump back by the tank. I replaced four pumps in 60,000 miles before I took the plunge and now have 40,000 on this setup with no problems.

Hey steve, It's because of your post on the fuel presure gauge install that I have them. Thank You.

Would I have to replace the stock pump first or can I just install the pusher pump instead?

Lift pump

Hey George,

Jetpilot just posted about the dealer in Duncannon being soooo great. I don't know which dealer you went to but Duncannon is just down the road from you. If you haven't tried him yet you might. It could save you some money and work.

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Replaced mine at 10,000 miles under warranty. No problem from my dealer. If Duncannon doesn't help you out let me know. Maybe you can have it done up here. I'd be glad to help you all I can. Let me know via PM or e-mail -- email address removed --

If you want to go with the helper pump like I have you'll want to replace your stock pump first as well. If you want to just put a pusher pump back at the tank and eliminate the stock pump then you'd just need to remove and bypass the stock one.

Cobra, I bought my truck from CVM in Mechanicsburg. They are very uncooperative when it comes to warrentee work. I have heard that the dealer in Duncannon is much easier to deal with. I just haven't approached them since I didn't buy my truck there but I just might have to pay them a visit. I think I'll stop over there tomorrow and if I don't get anywhere with them I'll drive down to Harrisburg Cummins and buy the pump myself.

Pump 3990105

George, get a Cummins pump #3990105, like stated before around $140 and 20 to 30 minutes of your time. Get new washers for the banjo bolts you will need 4 of them, cost is about 90 cents apiece. My pump died around 19000 miles, put this one in and it exceeds my Westach 15 psi gauge to the point the needle stuck on the high side. I have ordered a 0-30 psi from Westach to remedy this.

OK good enough. I wouldn't drive that rig too much with the fp that low. You may wind up on the hook. If there is anything I can do let me know.

George,

The Cummins shop in Harrisburg is going to want around $165. 00 or so for the pump. They are affiliated with the Cummins shops near Baltimore and Philly and their prices tend to be higher than most Cummins distributors.

Call the Cummins shop in Newark, NJ or any of the Cummins Northwest shops and have them ship it to you. The shipping and sales tax are about the same so you should be around $20. 00 ahead and the pump will be shipped to your door.

Good luck with the pump, should be a few guys in your area that will be willing to help you out.

Dave

Yea Dave, I just called Cummins in Harrisburg. They want $184. 00 + tax.

An appointment is made with Forrers in Duncannon for next Thursday. I'll let you know how I make out.
