I did some figuring the other night while laying in bed trying to get to sleep... ... ..... anyway, I had run 1445 gals of fuel through my truck before replacing my lift pump. if that represents 30% of the fuel the VP44 has consumed, then my lift pump pumped about 4881 gallons of fuel before going south on me.

the VP, I was told, returns about 70% of the fuel it runs through. (for cooling) so if i have burned 1445Gal. then it would have to have pumped 4881 gals to burn it.

when looking for a replacement this should help determine the duty cycle and life span of your replacement. :D

Man, I got to get some sleeping pills or something :D  :D

YES, you do !!!! :p and I need a airbox  . I am chomping at the bit lol. You have just hit on something, duty cycle. Maybe if it was fed by another pump it would lengthen the cycle.

My 99 has over 50,000 miles and lift pump seems ok. My 96 lasted 50,000 miles and dodge replaced it, which lasted 10,000 miles and a cummins dealer in Georgia replaced it and that one has lasted 60,000 miles plus. Oh yea dodge reimbursed me the money for the pump from cummins-I could not get to a dodge dealer as I was towing on I-95 and lost power and had to spend the night in a truck stop near the cummins dealer. ;)
