I am fixing to mount a new lift pump on my frame for easier access. When I cut the fuel line and install the new lift pump, can I leave the stock pump in it's place? Will fuel just run thru the old pump with the power disconnected? It looks like I could just un hook the power wire and run it to the new pump. Sounds easier than re plumbing but will it work?

JD,

I recall reading that some have indeed left the old lift pump in place with fuel being pushed through it. Personally I wouldn't recommend it because that's just one more restriction in the fuel line you don't need.

Your best bet would be to run new 3/8" ID fuel line all the way from the Dorman fitting on the tank to the stock fuel filter on the engine. Vulcan Diesel Performance sells a lift pump relocation kit that includes a new fuel line, all the necessary fittings, pump bracket, and wiring harness extension.

Regards,

John L.

Since the original lift pump had banjo type fittings, will screw type hose clamps be OK for the 3/8" rubber hose to the inlet and outlet of the new lift pump once I cut the steel fuel line?.

Yes... that'll work just fine as long as you're using matching 3/8" hose nipples or barbs on the lift pump fittings.

Here's a picture of mine with worm gear clamps. Has worked fine for 3 years. I have replaced the pump with an Airtex E7153. I removed the engine mounted pump and ran hose from the filter to the pump. Got the hose from Geno's.
