First off TDR is great. I've been learning so much here. Here's the thing: Installed gauges, Boost, Egt & Fuel Pressure. I have a '98. 5 w / 53 k. Been seeing 12 lb at idle and at 70 mph whe empty and on it I can pull it down to the magic 8 lb. Well the other morning I had 5lb at idle and 0 to 1 lb while on it a little (empty). Went to STEALER and was told lift pump is not covered under 5 yr. 100k warranty. From what I've read this can't be so. Also just changed out fuel filter & opened up the banjos & replaced washers from Geno's. What can I do about this non-warrantied lift pump. Thanks.

On my '98. 5 the lift pump was covered at 73k miles last year. I would call the dealers bluff. Get ahold of the regional warranty person (I did that for another warranty issue) and it worked like a dream - just ask them to show you where in the warranty it excludes the repair - if they can't show it, they have to fix it. PM me if you need a name and number for the guy I talked to.

warrantee

My dealer has replaced 2 lift pumps - no problem. The second time I gave the mechanic a ride so he could see the pressure gauge. First time they couldn't get a pump in time, so I got one from Cummins. I took them the bad pump, explained that they could test it by hooking it to a battery, they handed me a replacement.

Good Luck!

the dealer is correct, in 1998, your lift pump was not covered under the 100K warrantee. you will see others say "yes it is" but there not driving 98's. In later years Dodge discovererd that a bad lift pump will distroy the injection pump (which IS covered for 100K miles) so they decided they should cover the lift pump that long.

In 1998, your lift pump is covered under the 80K (5 year I think) HD emissions warrantee. With your owners manual came a little book that talks about warrantee, the answer is in there.

Some dealers have switched pumps on 98. 5's on trucks over 80K, but they "ate" the job as a "good will gesture".

Check the book, see what the time is on the HD emissions warrantee, then go show that to the dealer if its still covered, they should know the answer, but if you ask them "is the lift pump covered under the 100k warrantee?" they will say "NO"

If your over your time, Don't buy one from the Stealer. Cummins will sell you one for around $160. 00. Check other threads on how to install it, etc, etc.

I have a 98 ISB and the lift pump was replace, along with the injector pump at 101,000 miles. DC went on and paid half since it was just over the 100k mark. I was pleased that they did that. I was told by the dealer that both were covered by the 100k warrenty. It could be that they were just a bunch of stupids. After they replaced all that it still ran like crap. I replaced the fuel filter and all was good again, except they did not change the injector tubes. Did not even know about the TSB and I had to get one and hand it to them. Reno Dodge will never see me again.

If Turbo Torque has only 53k on his truck, it is still under the 80k mile mark. So I believe he needs to check with someone from DC and they should be able to help. I did it in less than 3 min. by phone and saved about $1700. If you are polite to them they treat you well.

that sounds right. call dc directly and talk to consumer relations. tell them the situation and what dealer refused the work. go from there and keep us posted. :(

lift pump

Maybe it would help them understand that if the lift pump goes bad then they will be buying the injection pump which is covered or you can politely as the service manager for the regional reps phone number.
