I was just driving down the road the other day and it started raining. How does the Fuel pump mounted on the frame rail react to the rain, snow, ice, mud and dirt??
 
The pump itself should be sealed. I would get some dialetric grease and smear over the electrical connections to seal out water.



A Banks kit I installed for a customer had a little packet of the stuff to seal the T-tap on the transmission. It is very good stuff.
 
Used the Vulcan kit to relocate mine in front of the fuel tank. The kit included wiring the had connectors that matched the originals.

Expect no problens but if necessary there is room to make/mount a deflector shield.
 
I was drift busting last year through drifts big enough that I packed the engine bay with snow and threw the belt off from snow getting into the pulleys and had no problem with my frame mounted pusher pump.
 
I've had mine in front of the tank for over 100k and the only problem I had was when I ran over a branch in the road and it pulled the connectors apart. I then sodiered them and re-routed them over and around the back of the pump. Just poor routing on my part during the original install. This is one of the best mods you can do IMO. It's so easy to replace a pump when they begin to go bad rather than doing the contortionist thing in the OE position.
 
The Vulcan kit gives you a harness that plugs into the relocated pump and the original connector.

Easy to install, sealed as good as the original, and looks good.
 
Well, way back when, they didn't have the those fancy high falootin' harnesses. You had to do it the old school way. LOL The connectors were left over from the 15psi Carter before I went back to the Cummins LP. For some reason, I put the Cummins plug-in on the same wires and never gave it a thought that I didn't need the conectors anymore. It's nice to be able to switch a pump out in 30 min. or less.
 
What kind of noise are people getting from the frame mounted lift pump? I just installed the Vulcan kit and I was surprised to hear the pump running so clearly (and loud). Has anyone used any sort of insulator between the mounting bracket and the frame? I haven't read anything about the increased pump noise on previous posts.

On another note the fuel pressure went up a fair amount at idle. Before I installed the kit it was 8 psi at idle, now it sits at 11. 5 psi. This is using the pump that has been on the truck. Its a 2000 3500 and I have no idea when or if the lift pump has been changed. I bought it used three years ago (72K miles) and I haven't had any problems with it. I have a new pump ready to go should the original should fail.

I haven't had a chance to drive the truck since installing the kit so I don't know what WOT and highway cruise pressures are. I'm sure they're better than they used to be.
 
I can hear mine more than I could when it was mounted to the side of the engine.





At least I can until the engine lights up. After that, all I hear is rattle and roar. ;)



I'm seeing 16 psi and it never gets lower than 11 at WOT.



As far as the connections, I cut the factory connector off at the engine, spliced in a longer power wire and used the factory connector at the pump. No problems yet.
 
DM, Good idea to put a cover over the pump. I mounted my lp on the inboard side of the frame. Not quite as conveinent to remove but maybe a little more protected.



MHoverson, I used a piece of rubbery plastic to isolate the LP from the frame. I's worked fine for 3+ years and about 3 LPs. I've used the same mount for all of them.
