I just purchased a campaign lift pump. I've read mixed reviews about the pressures that people are seeing. I'm debating whether or not to relocate it using the vulcan kit... . but eventually I would like to get the airdog. If I get the airdog, I understand that it runs straight to the vp44. Would the vulcan kit be totally useless then? Is there anyway to plumb it to have the vulcan as a back up?

Campaign pumps

I bought 2 campaign pumps from Cummins last year - one to replace and one for backup. Bought the Vulcan frame relocation kit to go with it. The first lasted 2200 miles before it starting making screeching noises and the pressure went from +13 down to 10, then 8, then 5. Second pump did a little better - 2600 miles, then the same old crap... Finally ditched them forever and replaced it with a Glacier Diesel Walbro pump. Super quiet and it appears that it actually can pump fuel - unlike those incredible pieces of junk from Carter.

Save yourself some time and eBay those pumps and buy a Walbro. You'll be happy you did.

I would go with an inline style pump, as the fuel lubricates the motor which drastically increases pump life. then use a return style reg. to set to pressure where you feel comfortable. I went through 2 holly blues in a year, long trips seemed to kill them. I have had an aeromotive A1000 i know is overkill, but i run 50% or more veg oil in the summer an it works great. i bench tested the A1000 with straight veg oil out of the fridge. it works awesome! i've been running it for a year now and wouldn't use anything else, i love it! I never tried the fass or airdog, but i hear they are pretty good. also the walbro is inline, FUEL LUBRICATED most important!

I also purchased a new campaign lift pump and was disappointed with it. The original pump would only get 13 psi. @ idle and I could bring it down to 2 to 3 psi. on a hard pull or WOT and I would let out of the throttle. I purchased another of the old part number lift pump and kept the original for a spare, but it had the same low pressures. I finally purchased the Vulcan big line kit, which was a great kit, and relocated the pump back by the tank. That gave me good pressures, 15 psi. at idle and no lower than 10 psi. @ WOT. Then a couple months later the pump started to make a noisy racket and pressures started to drop to 5 to 8 psi. I bought one of the new campaign lift pumps and put it on and I was disappointed in the pressures. I only saw 12 psi. @ idle and I could draw it down to below 5 psi. @ WOT. I got frustrated with the Carter pumps and put my original pump, that I kept for a spare, back on. That gave me back good pressures but no faith in how long it would last. I finally bought an AirDog FP-80 last year and it has worked perfect for me. I ran it through the stock filter which still gave me the WIF sensor and the fuel heater, even though most people say this isn't needed. I left the Vulcan line from the factory filter to the VP44 in place and I ran the AirDog lines from the tank to the factory filter. The Vulcan kit and AirDog kit gave me enough fittings so i could take my original lift pump and be able to add it inline for emergency use if something happens to the AirDog pump. The AirDog is very quite and compact, I like how it tucks up behind the transfer case and is protected by the skid plate on my 4x4 truck. After a slight shim adjustment to the relief valve spring I get a constant 16 psi. @ idle, 14 to 15 psi. cruising, and I can't pull it any lower than 13 psi. @ WOT. These pressures are monitored at the fitting going into the VP44 and I've always verified the pressures with a liquid filled 0-35 psi. hyd. test gauge to make sure my Dipricol gauge was reading correctly. Regards, Mike.

Campaign pump and Vulcan relocation kit got me 17 psi @ idle, 15 psi cruising, 11 psi @ WOT Edge EZ on setting #2. Two months and 3000 miles so far.

My lift pump just ate itself with 11k. I gave up and bought an Airdog.

Couldn't really afford it, but if I was gonna put a stocker on, I had to relocate, and then the cost is too close to be worth skimping. put it in today, first time I have ever broken 14psi!! holds steady at 13+psi and cannot drag it below 12.
